Exchanging One Park For Another 07/23/20

Elk Meadow Lodge & RV Resort, Estes Park, Colorado

A ruler who oppresses the poor is like a driving rain that leaves no crops.  ~ Proverbs 28:3

My hubby was a workhorse this morning before we left!  Washing dishes and windows, filling our water tank, cleaning the black tank, and doing his best to remove all that dirt that’s accumulated on our bikes the past few weeks.

And all the while he was working so hard, I was sitting at my “desk”, answering emails and blogging.  I’m kinda liking having a domestic servant.  Wonder if he can cook anything besides breakfast food and bake chocolate chip cookies?  😉

Our drive was only 36 miles today and took us just over an hour, but it was a narrow winding road through fantastic scenery!  And they provided pull-offs along the way so slower drivers could get out of the way. There was another long motorhome similar to ours a few cars in front of us who chose not to get out of the way.  Gives us a bad name!  But once Blaine accumulated a following, even though we knew they wouldn’t get far, he pulled over to let a few cars pass.  It turned out to be at least 30!  You can’t see them all because of those turns.

As soon as we left the campground, we discovered they’d oiled the road.
Slow and steady, we got through it without slapping much oil on our vehicles.
Yuck!!
This was the most challenging part of the drive – – get around this narrow corner in downtown Estes Park!
He managed just fine by turning right from the left lane.
Driving through Estes Park. So many gorgeous flowers everywhere!
28 miles to Loveland, and our final destination.
Much of the road followed this river on one side or the other.
So pretty!
That’s the slow motorhome up there.
I think he was traveling about 10-15 mph UNDER the limit.
This is where we pulled over and watched as car after car drove by.
We’re certain they all thought it was us holding them up, but they’d soon discover otherwise.
The line of cars is still there, which means he hasn’t pulled over yet.
Haven’t seen that sign before!
Yeah, right . . . .

Eventually, the other RV pulled over, but not for quite a while.  Other than that, and the exquisite scenery, our short drive was uneventful.

He finally pulled over, and we were able to pass – along with a ton of cars.
We’re close now. Pretty lake!
Some will know why I took this picture, some will not. : )
This is our turn!

We’ve left the National Parks for a bit as we head east toward Ohio.  It’ll take us about 7 weeks to get there, but we’re now on our way!  We miss everyone sooooo much!

Looks like a former gas station, or a highway toll booth. : )

Here’s where we’re spending the next few days, letting our weary bodies rest, getting some things done, and catching up the blog once again.  And just so you know, it’s not always my fault that we’re behind.  Sometimes it’s excruciatingly slow internet, sometimes there are multiple necessary interruptions, and sometimes my editor forgets to post.  😊

Since we dropped about 5,000’ of elevation, we’re back in the heat again.  Here’s proof!

Yeah. I’d say it’s hot again!
This is the Jeep’s outside thermometer. Egad!!
I took it after we unhooked to drive to our campsite.
Waiting while another camper fills his tank with water.
It took about 10-15 minutes.
How hot is it? We decided to eat dinner outside because it was shady.
That used to be a honey/cinnamon butter spread I made . . . .
That’s our side view!
Pretty nice, huh?
