Natural Bridge State Resort Park, Slade, Kentucky

Do not let your mouth lead you into sin.  ~ Ecclesiastes 5:6

This has been popping up on my computer screen everytime I turn it on. : )
This is the Visitor Center for the town of Slade. It’s where we picked up our maps. It was all so nicely decorated!

We hiked about 5 miles today within the State Park and also stepping over the line into the Red River Gorge area,  before moving on to actually visiting more of the Red River Gorge area after the approaching hurricane subsides.

Isn’t this a great picture Blaine took?!?!?
Another 1/4 mile to go!
I don’t know what that blue stuff is.
I didn’t notice it when I took the picture. : (
There’s Whittleton Arch!
You can’t really tell, but it’s there, off to the left!
That’s Blaine, on his way to the top of the arch.
That’s me. Standing there waiting for him to get to the top.
He made it!
And yes, you’re allowed up there. : )
Looking down fromt he top of the arch.
Lovely colors underneath!
And patterns!
There’s a tiny waterfall.
If you look closely at the picture, you can just make out water dripping.
Don’t know any of those people,
but I’d say we’re following Social Distancing protocol pretty well, wouldn’t you? : )
Blaine’s returned and is now under the waterfall.
Looking out from under the arch from where I was sitting.
Making my way back down.

We are still absolutely fascinated with these Bigleaf Magnolias they have here!  Spindly little trunks with even smaller branches that host enormous leaves!  And when they fall to the ground, most of them land upside-down, their white backsides making the ground look like someone dumped trash all over!  It’s really quite remarkable!  Once again, God proves His creativity and love for us!

Can you believe that trunck and branches supports those giant leaves?!?
The picture didn’t turn out nearly as well as seeing it with the naked eye.
All the white in the picture is leaves.
Moving on! There are still things to see!
The map told us of a sinkhole you could climb down into.
Yippee!!!! Very cool! Literally!
This same sinkhole also contains Henson’s Arch.

After our exercise was complete, we stopped by the Nature Center on the way home.  It was housed in a large building, but the actual ‘center’ part was pretty small, and no one was in there.  Still, the displays they had were very nicely done!

We thought this display was excellent!
Remember when we visited this arch the other day?
This is a taxidermied turkey.
Well done!
Things you never knew!

As part of their displays, in a nod to the season, there were a couple of Halloween stories laying out for you to read.  We especially enjoyed the disclaimer.  😊

Heres one of the stories, to entertain you! Ill be adding more on other days. 😊

It was a great day to be outdoors!  Tomorrow, we’ll be sequestered all day.
