An Eventful Drive 11/09/20

Panther Creek State Park, Morristown, Tennessee

In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. ~ John 1:4

We drove 156 miles in about 2 ½ hours today, with a fair share of interesting encounters.  I don’t have pictures for all of them, but we followed a house being moved (not sure why they were moving it because it looked like a burned-out shell once they turned and we were close enough to see it), received a chip in the middle of our windshield when debris came off a dump truck, a swarm (not a flock, a swarm!) of birds that came awfully close to hitting us, the smoky remains of a car and truck on fire, lots of traffic, and several close calls (including one where a car decided to pass a semi on an entrance ramp in front of us, swerved to the left and came within an inch (literally!) of side swiping a car in the left lane.

On our way!
Whoa!
Back up and take a look at this picture!
Take a real good look . . .
Do you see anything unusual?
Yep! There’s a man standing on top of the house!
The entire way down the road!
See what I mean about it not appearing like something you’d want to pay to move?
So much traffic!
So many trucks!
Such narrow lanes!
That’s our sign!
Chattanooga, here we come!
Beautiful!
Uh oh. What’s the hold up? Construction?
Not this time!
These are all emergency vehicles.
And they’ve blocked off a lane on either side.
Looks like an accident between the guy on the left by the semi (white T and jeans), and the guy on the right by the SUV (read shirt, black pants). There are a few road workers, and also, on the far right, police officers.
Downtown Chattanooga
Moving on . . .
There’s not much along this stretch of highway,
but there’s a Waffle House and a Days Inn! : )
Gorgeous!
This is us!
They have a cavern you can tour, but after looking at pictures,
there wasn’t anything different than what we’ve seen on other tours,
and for $22/person, we decided to skip it.
This is our road!
Wonder how many people drive right up their front door?!?
It wasn’t easy for Blaine to make that turn, but slow and steady and really wide, got the job done. : )
We’re here!

Our guardian angel was surely working overtime today!  I’ll bet they (along with Blaine) were really glad when we parked at our site and turned off the engine!

Raccoon Mountain, Chattanooga, Tennessee

This Park campground came with a corner lot (more room – at least on one side), friendly and helpful staff who escorted us to our site, about a half dozen cats wandering around, and amazing views!  There’s a rainy day or two in our future, but we’re still expecting to enjoy some different things while we’re here!
