A Taste Of Peru 03/06/21

The Lord appeared to Abraham….Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby.  When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground. “If I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, do not pass your servant by.  Let a little water be brought and then you may all wash your feet and rest under this tree.  Let me get you something to eat, so you can be refreshed and then go on your way – now that you have come to your servant.”  “Very well, they answered, “do as you say.” ~ Genesis 18:1-5        I believe Abraham recognized the three as the Lord (preincarnate Jesus) and two angels, and he extended every customary courtesy (and more) to them – including bowing low to the ground in humble submission.  Did you notice the correlations between this, and the Lord’s Supper?  Water to wash the feet (although Jesus did it for His disciples), and sharing a meal.  At least that’s what immediately came to my mind when I read the passage. 😊

It was a bit cool this morning – early morning – as we rode around the Park.  Unfortunately, our trip was cut short by a masked guy in a golf cart forbidding us entrance to the other end of the Park.  It’s Saturday.  And it’s Vaccination Day.  And “I was told not to let anyone over there!”, he yelled, because he was pretty far away and Blaine was traveling pretty fast.  Darn!

But there were other places to play.  Just not where the iguanas like to hang out.  ☹

After we returned home, I had my work cut out for me blogging about our vacation.  And Blaine acquired a slight headache trying to work out our reservations for this summer.  For some weird reason, Iowa doesn’t seem to be a state of campers.  He had trouble finding campgrounds!  And the ones he was finding weren’t interested in hosting us.  (i.e. – they didn’t have any space left, or weren’t booking for the summer yet)  Eventually, he was able to claim victory!

Tonight, we dined in Peru!

Well, we weren’t really in Peru, but Blaine discovered a Peruvian restaurant and offered to try something new.  The place is called La Perala Peruvian Restaurant, and it truly was different!  In a really good way though.

We had outdoor reservations, but as we set out, the temperature dropped dramatically, the wind kicked up substantially, and the rain poured out in buckets.  Such a down-turn in weather, made us wonder if McDonalds might be on the menu instead.

Fortunately, La Perala had one indoor table left, and the hostess even suggested it for us.  Many others, tougher than us, were braving the elements outside.

When Blaine told our server that it was our first time, he recommended an off-menu item that came with four different dishes on it – a great sampler of their food.  And since it was off-menu, we can’t remember exactly what they were all called.  However, the dark stuff was sliced, grilled octopus. There were bits of mild, white, cheese of some type as well. (the server said the little round things were some kind of corn).  Excellent!  The round tower is called ‘causa’. It’s served cold and is made of mashed potatoes, avocado and other stuff I can’t remember, but one of the inside layers was chopped up, cooked shrimp.  Delicious!  The fried fish was Corvina fish (very mild) that was lightly breaded and fried and served on a very small bed of vinegar-based salad, along with tasty calamari (it looks like onion rings).    Yummy!  And this partition was Blaine’s favorite.  The glass held a dish called ‘ceviche’ with is raw Corvina fish marinated in a citrus sauce.  Ours had the fish and cooked lobster in it (hence the empty lobster tail as a garnish).  It was really good at first, but after a while, it got to be too much.  We took the leftovers home to rinse off and cook up for dinner tomorrow.

And then there was the Peruvian Chocolate Cake!  My oh my!!!!

Tomorrow promises to be another quiet day.
