Jacob answered Laban, “I was afraid, because I thought you would take your daughters away from me by force. But if you find anyone who has your gods, he shall not live. . . see for yourself whether there is anything of yours here with me; and if so, take it.” Now Jacob did not know that Rachel had stolen the gods. So Laban searches everywhere, and finds nothing. Now Rachel had . . . put them under her camel’s saddle and was sitting on them. And then used the excuse of menstruating so as not to have it searched. ~ Genesis 31:31-35 Jacob nearly lost his beloved Rachel, because if the gods had been discovered in her presence, he would’ve had no choice but to adhere to his word. Rachel must’ve been terrified. But what was she terrified of? Being discovered? Being killed? Was she afraid for her family, and the possible consequences to them? And once Laban gave up the search, did she give thanks to Almighty God for her protection? Or did she thank the gods she was sitting on?
We had planned on staying at Kellogg again (as those of you with our itinerary know), but because the traffic noise was so horrible there, Blaine changed our reservation to a new location. Took us 305 miles and close to 5 hours to get there – not that Kellogg would’ve been any closer.
Early on, we came to a “Closed Road” sign and barrier. As we were stopped and Blaine was checking Google Maps (what did people used to do without the internet?), two guys in a work truck of some kind came up the road behind us, turned around and told Blaine about the bridge being out. They said they were going through the small town nearby, but after checking Google Maps, Blaine decided we could make it on the dirt road.
And so we did, but not without putting some extra dust on everything inside. Yuk! Still, in the past, we’ve had much worse, so I didn’t complain too much today, especially since most of it was confined to the bathroom.
The rest of the drive was pretty monotonous. But we’ll take that over exciting any day!
This is a nice, Christian family owned campground. And we finally have full hook-ups (I can run as much water as I want!), and also a good, very strong WiFi signal! Yay!
