And Pharaoh retells his first dream to Joseph. “In my dream I was standing on the bank of the Nile, when out of the river there came up seven cows, fat and sleek, and they grazed among the reeds. After them, seven other cows came up – scrawny and very ugly and lean. I had never seen such ugly cows in all the land of Egypt. The lean, ugly cows ate up the seven fat cows that came up first. But even after they ate them, no one could tell that they had done so; they looked just as ugly as before. Then I woke up. ~ Genesis 41:17-21 Since Pharaoh seems most concerned about the ugliness of this second set of cows, I decided to look it up. King James says they’re “ill-favored”. Other versions also call them “ugly”. The Lexicon (the place that details the Hebrew words and their meanings) says the meaning is “bad of its kind”. I guess he’s accustomed to things being perfect around him. It must have been quite the nightmare to remember it so vividly and with such distress that he’s even willing to seek the counsel of a Hebrew prisoner. “But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things – and the things that are not – to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before Him.” (I Corinthians 1:27-29)
What have we done for five days? Not much worth remembering in a blog post. We’ve made phone calls, done laundry, made reservations for next winter, prepared blog posts, cleaned, went to church, menu planned ….. Doesn’t that all sound very exciting?? 😊
I’ve not written about this yet, but we’ve been trying to treat Blaine’s sun-poisoned lower lip. He didn’t want to go to a doctor, but I finally discovered a potential treatment – using a honey/sugar scrub to remove the dead skin (excruciatingly painful) and applying organic coconut oil frequently. He’s also taken some ibuprofen. As of the 9th, it’s moving towards healing. Praise the Lord!
One of our son Kyle’s friends, Zach was baptized this Sunday! Watching his video brought tears to our eyes! He’s always been one of our favorites of all Chris and Kyle’s friends. 😊 For those of you who may remember, Zach is the one who was in a horrific motorcycle accident last year and had to have his skull opened up to relieve the pressure. He was unable to walk right for a while, but now, thanks be to God, he’s good as new!
We took a drive back over to Goose Island State Park, just to get out for a bit. It was very fun watching the brown and white pelicans lined up waiting for fish scraps at the cleaning station! Out on the pier there was no fish catching today.
On the way home, we stopped by the Rookery – where Great Blue Herons hang out and have their nests. It’s also a place to check out the windswept trees along the bay. They’re all bending inland!
And we received pictures from Kyle’s family visiting the Great Lakes Science Center. Seems they had a great time!
There was also an arts and crafts day, as I modified St. Patrick’s Day cards for the grandkids. There are very slim pickin’s here (I’m thinking they don’t do much with that holiday down here – more Hispanic than Irish 😊), so I had to buy a green birthday card and fix it up for Kade. Thought he’d appreciate the joke more than the others.
I was planning on adding those new-fangled flying butterflies that you put into cards and stuff. I found a couple of websites that talked about how to make them yourself. Blaine (mostly Blaine) and I worked on figuring out how to make them work, but they didn’t, so we scrapped it. heavy sigh . . . . I made pots of gold instead, and inserted green bills.
We went out to an early dinner one day at Pier 77. It’s not a huge place, but there’s always a line of people waiting outside whenever we’ve driven by, so we figured it must be excellent, right?
And that’s it. For four days.
