Seven years of great abundance are coming throughout the land of Egypt, but seven years of famine will follow them. Then all the abundance in Egypt will be forgotten and the famine will ravage the land. The abundance in the land will not be remembered, because the famine that follows it will be so severe. The reason the dream was given to Pharaoh in two forms is that the matter has been firmly decided by God, and God will do it soon. ~ Genesis 41:29-32 Oh, how soon we forget God’s loving care for us, when bad times come along! We ride the highest highs with Him and praise and thank and love Him, and shortly after, when our spirits dip to the lows, we grumble and complain and whine. When you think about God working and moving in your life, is it easier to call to mind the good times or the bad? I think that’s a good indication of our spiritual temperature. It’s good to remember that even in the lowest of lows, Jesus promised to never leave or forsake us. He carries us in those times, whether we see Him, acknowledge Him, praise Him, or not. And we should always praise. I learned that best from a good friend who lived through a ‘Job-like’ life. When I asked her how she managed, she said wholeheartedly, “Praise Him! Each and every day!” Now that’s a spiritual temperature I’d love to have!
~ A great wind is blowing, and that gives you either imagination or a headache. ~ Catherine the Great (Empress Regnant of Russia from 1762-1796)
For me, these days it gives me sleepiness, which leads to irritability. Now mind you, I adore a great wind sometimes, so I guess that puts me in the ‘imagination’ category – at least at those times. When I was much younger, one of my very favorite things to do was climb to the top of our maple tree on windy days and sway in the breeze! (wasn’t my mother wonderful to allow me to do that?!? She’s the best! Maybe because she was a bit of a tomboy herself… 😊)
There are no trees to climb here, and I don’t have the strength or fearlessness I had back then.
All that to lead into this:
Three more days of not much to say. Mostly weather related, yet again. A front came through, in the form of very strong winds, and crashed the temperatures to well below normal. How did we spend our time? Baking, cooking, laundry, reserving, blogging . . . .
Three things worth mentioning – – we walked around Rockport, went to the March Birthday Party at the clubhouse for cake and watched as a prescribed burn filled the air with smoke.
They were all on the 12th. We first noticed the smoke in the morning. The winds had finally died down to a mere 4-5mph, so the smoke formed a large billowy, cumulonimbus-like cloud, which was pretty cool to see! We wondered what was burning. After a few hours, Blaine decided to head out into the cold and see what was going on. Turned out to be waaay across the bay! It looked soooo much closer! Made for a gorgeous sunset, but we didn’t take pictures because when we left for cake, that’s evidently all that was on our minds, and we neglected to take our phones with us. heavy sigh . . . .
Between the smoke and the cake, we re-visited the town of Rockport and walked around some new areas, trying to follow the walking history trail map we received when we first arrived nearly a month ago. But first, we had to give our bodies some nutrition for the journey.
Whataburger seemed like just the thing, since we had a coupon for a free burger from our last visit. What do you mean “That’s not nutritious!”? Of course it is! It meets all the food groups – Protein (meat), Dairy (cheese), Vegetables (Pickles ARE a vegetable, so are onions. And how many schools have tried to make ketchup one, plus there was lettuce and tomato-which is technically a fruit, and of course potatoes!), Bread (in the form of a bun). So there. I feel no guilt. But what I do feel is my pants growing tighter. Guess I should stop eating nutritious stuff! Especially when it’s double portions. Yes. I confess. I ordered a double meat burger. And it was delicious! Twice as good as the last one I had. 😊
And then we walked off at least a tiny bit of it. The heavy smoke cast an eerie yellowish pall over everything, eventually chasing away our lovely blue sky, as well as diminishing the sun’s light.
Don’t know what the out building is. Note the walking path across the pool.
Cool place though! And it’s also a B&B.
At the party, we were introduced to Dawwg and Shirley. Yes. That’s how he spells it, and for some reason that I didn’t understand, he doesn’t like to use his given name of John. Something about it being too common??? He acquired the moniker because he used to ride a chopped Harley. Anyway, he used to be an air traffic controller, but he didn’t really want to talk about that too much. He seemed more excited to share about his drone that he’s planning on using to get his fishing line and bait further out into the water. 😊 Shirley worked in a bank. They have two children and call home near Branson, Missouri, but have been full-time for nine years.
Also at the party, was a young boy named Maverick (Top Gun fans???) who’s actual birthday was that night! The hostess came around to the tables and said we’d sing “Happy Birthday” specifically to him. We did, and he ate up the attention! And the singing was very well done!! It was actually joyful, instead of the funeral dirge version most people seem to sing.
Maverick and his little sister, made us miss our own grandkids tremendously!
Sunday, brought sun and 15mph wind. And we were mostly lazy, like we used to be on Sunday afternoons. We had no right, since we’ve lazed around plenty while we’ve been here!
I’ve been enjoying pictures from our 2011trip to Hawaii as a screensaver on my laptop. Since there wasn’t much to talk about these days, I’ve decided it’s time to share a few with you. Enjoy!
I wasn’t in as good a shape back then. : )
That was a long, hard day, but absolutely gorgeous!!
Later the same day, we were walking on the beach in swimsuits!
It had a 1,500′ elevation change that began at 10,000′
This whale had no problem giving us tourists a show!
He kept slapping his tale on the water. : )
