Beautiful Drive     10/24/22

At that time I, Daniel, mourned for three weeks.  I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips; and I used no lotions at all until the three weeks were over. Daniel 10:2-3      Why was he mourning?  It was because of the previous vision he’d been given by the archangel, Gabriel, who brought a message of brief outline for the next 490 years (“seventy sevens”).  He spoke of the completion of the new temple.  He spoke of the coming of the Anointed One (Jesus), the time of the Anointed One being ‘cut off’ (Jesus’ crucifixion), the destruction of the temple by the Romans (in 70AD) and the fact that “war will continue until the end”, and the end of sacrifice and offering, as well as “the abomination that causes desolation”.  This news set the godly Daniel into a tailspin as he mourned for God’s chosen ones for the next three weeks.  Do you ever mourn for the state of believers?  I know I don’t.  But we should.  And Daniel’s example, found in Chapter 9, teaches us that we need to include ourselves in that prayer, because none of us are exempt from sin.

For those of you paying attention, our original plan was to drive to West Virginia today, but friends invited us to share a cabin with them for two days not too awfully far from Mohican State Park, so we did a little detour for a few days.

It was a gorgeous 68-mile drive on scenic backroads.

And that’s it for today!  After yesterday’s lengthy post, I thought maybe I should do a short one.  😊
