Camp Creek State Park, Camp Creek, West Virginia
Then I heard him speaking, and as I listened to him, I fell into a deep sleep, my face to the ground. A hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees. He said, “Daniel, you who are highly esteemed, consider carefully the words I am about to speak to you, and stand up for I have now been sent to you.” And when he said this to me, I stood up trembling. ~ Daniel 10:9-11 I wondered at Daniel’s ‘deep sleep’. I wondered if he fainted, or if he slept to receive the words of the man in linen; so I went to the Lexicon to see how they defined the words. It says, “stunning effect of awe and dread”. The same happened to him in Chapter 8, verse 18. I think Daniel had to have been a remarkable man. First of all, God has considered him “highly esteemed”. Angels don’t give men titles, they just do God’s bidding, so the title had to come from God Himself. And second, even after all the visions he’s been given, he never becomes prideful and his heart remains soft to the plight of his fellow Israelites. And third – that he was able to stand in the face of this man-like form. I don’t know how he did it, except to say that he walked closely with the Lord. Oh, that we would walk so closely!
Since we spent part of our original time in Mohican State Park, we had two days left to enjoy this Park. I’ve combined them into two days of fun in the forest!
The first day, we just went a few miles, saw a waterfall, some fungus and horses, complete with a little herding dog trailing behind. We didn’t wear sweatshirts very long.
It was a little cooler the second day as we set out on our hike, for three reasons – it was cloudy, there was a slight breeze, and we weren’t climbing a mountain.
Until we were.
Funny how the higher you climb the warmer it gets. I guess heat really does rise.
Or was it because we were exerting ourselves? 😊
I’m ashamed to say that I was feeling a bit grinchy and unthankful for a time. I love trudging through fall leaves as much as the next person, but after a while today, I was just tired of the noise, noise, noise NOISE! The leaves were deep – nearly up to our ankles much of the way, and the constant crunch, crunch, crunch by two people began to grate on me. ☹
It was a lovely hike though, and we’re grateful to be able to enjoy God’s marvelous creation!
