An Ill Wind     11/08 – 12/22

Panther Creek State Park, Morristown, Tennessee

Then a mighty king will appear (Alexander The Great), who will rule with great power and do as he pleases. After he has appeared, his empire will be broken up and parceled out toward the four winds of heaven.  It will not go to his descendants, nor will it have the power he exercised, because his empire will be uprooted and given to others. ~ Daniel 11:3-4

This is 129 years after Xerxes and 203 years after Daniel received the revelation.

Alexander The Great

Alexander The Great

  1. His father was king of Macedonia
  2. At 13, his father hired Aristotle to tutor him for 3 years
  3. Ruled 336-323BC
  4. Average height of men at that time was 5’7”.  Alexander was 5’3”
  5. He took over after his father was murdered.  He was 20 years old
  6. Within 3 years he had conquered most of the known world
  7. His world takeover was fast and furious.  No one could stand up to him
  8. He is considered by most to be the best strategist ever
  9. Alexander died suddenly of an illness – probably malaria – after being sick for 12 days in King Nebuchadnezzar’s former palace (think – Babylonian conqueror of Israel and the one who gave Daniel his high position, as well as putting Daniel’s friends in the fiery furnace.)  Alexander was 32 when he died
  10. No heirs took over his empire – his mother, Olympias, killed Alexander’s brother and then poisoned Alexander’s 2 sons (Hercules and Alexander)
  11. Eventually, the empire was divided amongst 4 of his generals, and so lost its power.  Of the 4, two became the most powerful and eventually took over everything – Ptolomey and Seleucus.  Remember those names.

The Covid booster shot side effects took me down for several days, and took about a week to completely dissipate.  For the most part, Blaine recovered by the end of the next day.

As such, we didn’t do much for the remainder of our stay in Panther Creek.

It was a short, uneventful moving day today as well, except for trying to dodge the rain. It poured the rain all morning, so Blaine watched the weather like a hawk in order to avoid driving in it. We did fairly well!

So now you know why I grouped five days together.  😊

I was still freezing and weak, but we ventured out for a short walk one day.
Looks like a sand castle!
It’s actually the remnants of an old dock.
Your guess is as good as ours . . . . ???????
Felling a bit better so we took a longer walk – with less layers of clothing. : )
We’re fascinated with all the dryness along the river! We were thinking drought, but not in this area.
Once we got over to the boat dock across the way,
there was a Ranger who said they purposely lower the water level during the off-season.
But we don’t have a horse! : )
Our last day, we ventured out to do some laundry and have dinner. These are their placemats. Pretty interesting! Did you know that 8 states border Tennessee?? Oh. Dinner was at The Little Dutch Pantry. With a name like that, you’d think it was Scandinavian food, or those of us from Ohio and PA might think Amish, but it was neither.
Seems most of their offerings were burgers or Italian. : )
My contribution to Veteran’s Day this year.
Blaine found it, sent it to my phone, and I put it in my laptop.
That’s all I had the energy for.

Twin Creek RV Resort, Gatlinburg, Tennessee

Friends from our home church rented a cabin nearby and will be staying the five days we’re here!

Once we got set up and our friends let us know they’d arrived at their cabin, we took soup and bread over for dinner and visited all evening.  Their cabin is up amongst the clouds!  Sharp switch-backs all the way once you enter the resort area, and with their huge picture windows, would’ve afforded a spectacular view if it hadn’t been cloudy and drizzly.  Soooo good to visit with friends!  We’re all expecting a terrific five days!

Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge have their Christmas lights up, so it was a spectacular drive home!
