Kejimkujik

We visited one part of Kejimkujik National Park – the seaside.  The other part is quite a ways inland.  We’ll get to that later.  I looked up Kejimkujik to see what it meant.  I found 3 completely different answers, so you’re on your own.

Today, we hiked.  The Keji (as they call it – probably because no one can pronounce the rest of it!) basically has one trail, although Blaine would probably tell you that’s not true.  There’s one that is kinda U-shaped.  The other connects with that one and loops down and around a point in the land.  But you have to go on most of the U-shaped one to get to the loop.  Are you thoroughly confused now?

OK.  I know you’re thinking, “let’s get on with it”. . . .

We forgot to take a picture – twice – but there was a yellow sign at the trailhead cautioning us about a bear in the area.  No bear.  No trace of a bear.  And besides, what’s a black bear want with the ocean anyway?

However, something that DOES like the ocean are seals!  And guess what?  We saw about 30 of them!  They were a little far away, so you get the best our cell phones have to offer, but we had taken binoculars with us this time and were able to get up close and personal that way!  They crack us up how uncoordinated they are on land (or in this case, rocks). But they’re so graceful in the water.

They were pretty far away, so this is the best we could do.

They were all over this rock (the white specks are some) and when they started leaving, we saw there were some young ones, too

As you can see, the sun wasn’t shining this morning when we started out.

Cormorants – we call them fishing birds because they dive under the water and stay there for quite awhile!

Some random views from our hike:

That’s all seaweed!

And once again, we discovered a wonderful spot for lunch!  No LEE bag today since we were hiking.  We both have waist-packs.  Blaine carried the heavy stuff – water and binoculars, while I carried the food.

We both ended up with too much sun today.  Not quite sure how that happened since it wasn’t sunny when we started out.  I think there was just too little shade on the trail.

We were hot and tired and the sun was blazing when we got back home, so we decided to don our suits and head to the beach about 5 minutes away.  You won’t believe what we found when we got there!

Dense fog!

It was the weirdest thing!  Needless to say, we didn’t swim.  Not because it was foggy, but because without the sun, it was quite cool!  And so’s the water!  So we left our shoes in the sand and walked the beach to its end.  We didn’t know there was an end until we got to it because we couldn’t see it!

On the way back home, Blaine was scoping out a place to put in the kayak.  We found a perfect spot!  We’ll head out tomorrow morning, weather permitting!

Here’s another food thing –  We stopped at the store on our way home.

When’s the last time you saw one of these??  : )

A carton of milk.  Sorry, I didn’t notice this is the French side.  : )
