Floating Down the River 8/11/17

Hey there!  Did you finish ‘Whales and Other Tales’ yet?  : )

Since I’m so far behind (I have 13 posts to do!!!!), I’ve decided that from now on I will include the date of the experience on my post titles.

It’s for our benefit as much as yours.  : )        We’re out of Prince Edward Island (where we’ve had no service) and Nova Scotia (where we were limited) and are now back in New Brunswick.  It’s now Saturday, August 26th. . . .

Back to Bridgetown, Nova Scotia . . . .

The river in our backyard is the Annapolis.  It’s a very slow (if at all) moving river, so we knew we could put in right at our site and get back easily.

Off we went!  Slowly paddling and sometimes just sitting still to look around.  Once we stopped for a while to watch 2 osprey flying just over our heads, seemingly checking us out.  We never saw a nest though.

Scout! Whadayasee up there??

One of our ‘sitting’ spots

We saw a cow.  I’m pretty sure he wasn’t supposed to be where he was.  😊

It’s a pretty sad commentary about wildlife when you get so excited to take pictures of dairy cows.

But then we saw an eagle!  And Blaine managed to get a great picture!

This is the same as the previous picture, just zoomed in

Again, same picture just zoomed in

And that’s when we discovered the tide had turned.  Literally.  The river developed a current when we weren’t looking.  And we had to paddle home up-stream against it.  Not horrible.  We hugged the shoreline which made it easier.  But it was still more exertion then we were expecting.

Turns out, the river rises and falls with the tide, we just never noticed it before!
