Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Philippians 2:3-4

I laid in bed this morning, mentally preparing myself for eleven days of no water.  Technically, that’s not exactly true.  We have 100 gallons stored in our tank.  What we won’t have is sewer hook-up.  Those tanks are also 100 gallons, and thanks to Blaine’s perseverance and hard work, we have the ability to know exactly how full they are – no more back up into the shower when it’s overfilled.  What no sewer means, is limited water usage.  Limited water usage means, limited dish washing – well, that’s not so bad – and limited water usage for hand, body and teeth washing.  That means use a tiny bit, turn off the water, wash/brush, use a tiny bit.  That means no conditioner in my hair unless I want to use the Park facilities.  I don’t like it, but I’ll do it.  It’s one of the trade-offs to ensure this lifestyle.  Sometimes, there are sacrifices to be made.  Sigh . . .

But we’re moving to very close to the north end of the Mackinac Bridge, which means we’ll be close by to visit the island.  It still requires ferry passage, but at least the drive home will be short.

Remember how I allowed Blaine into my kitchen the other day?  Well, today, he was trying to instruct me in mending.  I drew a hard line with a practiced intimidating stare.  I must retain control of some ‘secrets’.  I enjoy this life way too much to allow him to think he just might be able to go solo.

Today’s drive was barely nothing.  It took us 42 minutes to go 34 miles.  Check in wasn’t until 3pm, but we had to leave by noon because someone else was coming in to our spot.  Blaine checked.  We waited until exactly noon to leave, and fortunately, our site was already vacated when we arrived.  But the fire pit was still smoldering.  😊

I had to take our morning view tonight because Blaine has to pull out the awnings due to our position.

Since we were set up before 2pm, we had plenty of time to walk around.  There’s a trail here that offers views of the mighty Mackinac Bridge.  It was a little hazy this afternoon, but maybe another day will look better.

Here’s the picture Blaine took.

The trail actually goes to a real, honest to goodness, rest area on I-75!
We picked up some information on the area and walked back home.

77 steps. I counted . . .

This sign was really far away from the observation area. I did the best I could.

This is the “official view”.
Hmmm . . . .
We weren’t too happy with it.

To our right was a picnic area, so we went over there.
Much better!

We were so glad we’d already seen those 1,000 foot freighters in Sault Ste. Marie!
I really put things into perspective!

Knowing that we’re planning a day on Mackinac Island, we figured we better start training for it.  There are no cars on the island.  Transportation is by horse-drawn carriage, walking, or biking.  The island is too big to walk around much outside of town, and you can’t get on and off the carriages. We haven’t biked for a while, but fortunately, this Park is perfect for working on those dormant cycling muscles.  😊
