Van Buren State Park, South Haven, Michigan
Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification. Romans 14:19
Today is a very short blogging day. We did two things – bike from our campground to South Haven and dinner with a view.
But first, let me show you what a difference a day makes – – and gaining 120 new neighbors. : )
This ride wasn’t nearly as scenic as our last one, and at just (😊) 10 miles, it was 5 miles shorter. But it’s nice they have this paved trail for us, and it’s mostly flat, which I really like, and it wasn’t nearly as warm. Just a nice pleasant day.
Once we arrived in town, we parked our bikes and went to check out the 1-cent cookie sale we’d passed the other day. Really? One-cent cookies? Who could possibly pass that up??
We figured there’d be a catch – – and of course there was. “Buy a dozen, get a dozen for a penny.” We passed on the cookies (they looked hard and crispy, not ooey-gooey soft like we prefer), and instead each got a donut. I do not have a picture of these donuts. They were small – about the size of a tangerine. Custard and lemon. My custard had precious little custard in it. The donut part was good though. Blaine said his lemon was very good.
But here’s the thing. There were no prices on anything, and we discovered why when she rang us up. They were $1.50 each! Had we known, we never would’ve bought one. What’s the saying? Live and learn?
We walked down to the lighthouse area again and there was a wedding going on right on the beach! Wonder if they were wearing shoes? 😊
Blaine had this nice, romantic idea that we could pick up pizza and find a place to eat by the water, so we went off-trail to check it out and discovered a perfect spot!
We rode back home, puttered around a bit, then went to pick up Little Caesar’s pizza and wings. It turned into a study in frustration as there seemed to be only one very overwhelmed young girl working there, and no pizza and no wings available (they have their items ready to serve). Then Blaine tried to order Pizza Hut on-line, so it would be ready when we arrived. No-go. So we ended up having to drive to Pizza Hut, place our order and wait. But just before our timer went off to go back inside (we were waiting in the Jeep), the guy who took our order brought it out to us! Wasn’t that super nice of him?
Once we got settled, all that frustration melted away and we enjoyed our perfect spot!
We passed on the sunset tonight. No clouds. No breeze.
