Work vs Play 8/24-25/17

I was going to call this one ‘Work Before Play’, but that would be a lie, because after breakfast, we took a walk to the sand dunes at our campground.

Take a look at where we are

THEN we did some work – emphasis on some.  Work didn’t last long. 😊

It was a pretty lazy day for us.  We didn’t venture out of the campground until after lunch.  There’s a town about 30 minutes south of us called Summerside we wanted to check out.  What a nice place!  They have a wooden boardwalk all along their waterfront, a couple of fish markets and several shops.

A lighthouse you can’t get to. It’ used to be functional, but now is falling apart due to erosion.

Blaine is one very lucky man!  I don’t like shopping, so all he had to do was look at the storefronts.  What can I say?  He found the perfect woman!  Now you’re even more envious, aren’t you?  😊  Truth be told – I’m hardly perfect – I just don’t tell you all my faults.  Lol.

They had this play area set up in the harbor. Isn’t it great!?!?  Mostly kids, but there were a few adults.  However most of parents were standing on the dock taking pictures.  : )

We checked out two different fish markets.  In the first one, the fish just looked kinda old and dry.  But the lobsters and oysters looked pretty good.  In the second one, everything looked fresh, they just didn’t have much of a variety.

We finished our walk and went back to the second place.  Two 1 ½ # lobsters (already cooked) were just $8 each!  And we bought a piece of cod ($2.50), which was fine, but we like haddock much better!  Cod is battered and served as ‘fish and chips’ in the States for a reason!

This is a sample of the wheat fields we pass all the time.
Beautiful, huh?

What’s for dinner, dear?
Lobster, broiled cod, rice and corn on the cob.
Like the utensils Blaine brought to the table? : )

After dinner, we walked around our side of the beach.  It’s incredible to see how vast and barren the land is at low tide!  Keep in mind – – this is completely under water at high tide!

Next day?  Even slower!  We walked to the actual campground beach after breakfast – quite a while after breakfast – and sat and people-watched for a bit.  Hardly anyone was swimming because it’s only in the mid-60’s today with a cool breeze.

I worked on the blog (such as it was, since there’s still no internet!  Grrrrrrr!!), at least all my typing is caught up!  I counted this morning – as of this moment, I’m 13 posts behind!  But I digress.  It just gets really frustrating for me.

So, anyway, we ate lunch at our picnic table, then Blaine worked on my bike.  It’s been honking loudly and rattling and I finally told him “It’s too embarrassing for me.  I’m not riding it anymore until you fix it!”  Lucky for me, we had a slow day.  Otherwise, I’d still be scaring all the people and critters away!  I like riding it too much to make good on my threat.  And unfortunately, he knows it. 😊

We did a couple of other things and talked to a few people back in Ohio and waited for low tide.  This is the life of retired full-timers. . .

At low tide, we hoofed it to the campground beach and walked along the surf, scaring off the Piping Plovers.  After quite a ways, we came to this red-rock point that seemed to be impassable, but Blaine took a look and saw a lot of people around the bend, so we hiked up our shorts and traipsed through the water.  We didn’t stay long though because we didn’t want to get stuck when the tide came in!

This has been our yard for the week.  Wonderful!
