It’s a bit cooler today and there’s some fog hanging on, but we enjoy that too.
First on the agenda for today was a trip to Beals Island. We expected to find hiking here – after all, it IS an island, but we did not. It’s only a short distance from the Mainland, so there was a bridge. Nice little fishing village though and we were able to snap a few pictures from the road.
Next up – Great Wass Island Preserve. It’s connected to Beals with another short bridge. There were two trail options. We chose the Mud Hole Trail (3 miles) as it seemed to run more along the coastline, rather than through a bog/swamp area. Our choice was shorter, more scenic, and probably less buggy! (although we’ve not had much in the way of bugs since we left Ohio! Thank the Good Lord!)
Then we went to the town of Rogue Bluffs and their State Park. First we stopped for lunch along the road. It’s a good thing . . .
“Two miles”, he said. “Loop Trail”, he said. “No need to carry water”, he said. Can you see where this is going??
It had to be twice the distance – meaning 4 miles and decidedly NOT easy! But hey, at least it looped! And there were some nice views.
About 2/3 of the way, we climbed a steep hill where someone kindly placed a picnic table just for me, although how they managed to get it there, I’ll never know. Ahhhh! Tired feet, thirsty and admittedly very out of breath! While I took a respite, Blaine pulled out his phone and amazingly, he has 4 bars of Verizon service!
So what do we do? We both get on our phones. Right there in the middle of the woods. In the middle of our hike. What in the world has happened to us??? He starts checking his email and watching videos and shows one to me. It’s from an AGT show (Britain, maybe?) and it’s hysterical! This real dog is somehow talking like a ventriloquist act. I don’t know how he did it, but it was a real stitch!
Meanwhile, I’m looking for wood-fired pizza in Bar Harbor (our next address). Well, of course I am! I’m one of those people who lives to eat! Some people eat to live, but not me. I love almost everything, and I’m constantly thinking about what’s next . . .
Anyway, back to the day.
Well, actually, it’s almost over. We managed to find our way successfully back to the Jeep and headed home. 😊
