Stone Mountain Park, Stone Mountain, Georgia
For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. ~ Matthew 6:14-15
It was a very long drive today – 313 miles that took us 6 ½ hours of stress-filled driving. We went from Stone Mountain, Georgia to very near Stone Mountain, North Carolina.
Now you’d think that will all that time, I would’ve had several blog days completed by the end, but that wasn’t the case.
I started the day trying to get some visits scheduled when we get home in May – or at least get people thinking about it. And there were also some appointments to make. Then, once that priority work was done, it was almost lunch time and I took a break.
I planned on starting on my blog stuff as soon as Blaine got behind the wheel again, but it wasn’t going to happen. The roads were so bad, I couldn’t use the computer! We were bumping along so badly, stuff was flying around like we hadn’t even battened down the hatches before we left! At one point, I was holding stuff on the kitchen counter with my hands, while my backside was holding closed the doors and drawers on the opposite side! Good thing it’s narrow in here! We haven’t had this much trouble since we drove Southern Ohio and Kentucky roads to see The Ark. I could’ve used our grandsons to help hold things closed today.
In addition, Blaine had a rough time of his own with several near misses, man-handling this monster we call home over the bumps, and a few traffic jams.
EDITOR’S NOTE: It wasn’t as bad as she makes it sound. The only really rough part was the parking area where we stopped for fuel. And while the roads may have been a bit rough, it was not a “stress-filled” driving day. It was actually pretty easy. The above makes it sound like cupboard doors open and stuff falls out all the time, which isn’t the case. Everything, every time (except in that one parking area) always stays in place. Drama Queen . . . As far as how the laptop works . . . I wouldn’t know. I’ve never tried to use it while I’m driving.
And then once things leveled out again, it was still too bumpy to work on the laptop. So I was just a passenger up front, watching the expressway traffic, white lines and billboards sail by.
Byrd’s Branch Campground, Elkin, North Carolina
We made it to Byrd’s Branch Campground no worse for wear. Whew! But we opened every cupboard door very carefully, which ended up being a smart move on our part because even the braces we use inside the refrigerator when we move had popped loose! Precious little remained where it was supposed to be.
After dinner, we wanted to walk, so we visited a waterfall trail right here by the campground. We really needed our sticks again, but we managed. At least we’d put our tennies on!
