To The Rock 08/13/19

Camping du Phare a Perce, Perce, Quebec, Canada

A man who lacks judgment derides his neighbor, but a man of understanding holds his tongue. ~ Proverbs 11:12

The water was glassy smooth this morning, so we drove back to Three Sisters, blew up the boat and took off. First we went around the “shark rock” to see what was on the other side.

It’s a stellar morning!
Now that looks like trouble!
See that huge crack?
Plenty of rock slides here.
Did you spot the birds?
Cormorants give it a bit of perspective.
Seals! Some were hanging out in the water spying on us. They like to surround you. : )
It’s an arch. It looks like it fell from the top and landed that way, but it doesn’t “fit” anywhere.
Blaine thinks the inside eroded, making a hole similar to Perce Rock. He’s probably right.
Did you notice the white swirl?
Looked even better in person!
That’s as far as we went.
Time to turn around.

After enjoying that side, we turned around and paddled out toward Perce Rock once again.  This time, we were able to sit and enjoy it, and even made a quick stop there, just so we could say we were on it.  😊

Looks like people are walking across to the rock . . .
One of the ferries.
Now there’s some great perspective! Four guys walked across the sandbar to get to Perce Rock.
They tell you you shouldn’t go to the Rock because of fairly regular erosion,
but we’ve noticed quite a few walk out and back.
No one stays and we’ve not seen anyone try to climb around on it.
The guy in back seemed to be having more trouble.
He was lagging behind.
They made it! And it gave us a great picture!
Now we have to try to maneuver across the bar.
We don’t need much water, and since it was up to their knees in places, we should be fine.
And we were!
The hole wasn’t as big as it seemed.
It’s still a good-sized hole, we just thought it was bigger. : )
It would’ve been fun to pass through, but for two reasons – – there were too many rocks blocking the water, and of course the real risk of some of them bonking us on the head.
What remains of the other end, where the second hole used to be.
Looks as though another hole is forming.
Our home is over there somewhere.
Blaine can probably see it with his naked eyes . . . : )
If we didn’t know better, we’d’ve been very nervous! That ferry was plowing straight towards us! We knew we were close enough to the Rock not to worry, but still! It gets the adrenaline pumping! We waved, but all but one of the passengers were either snubbing us or too engrossed in looking at the Rock.
Collision narrowly avoided! Whew!
Blaine dropped me off on the Rock. Yay!!!
Oh man! I sure hope he comes back for me!
He returned to join me. : )
You can clearly see the sand bar from here.
The wet rocks are really pretty. So many colors.
Heading back.

Not a particularly interesting day for you, but we had a terrific time on the water for 90 minutes!

Once we got home, we laid out the boat to let it dry instead of wiping it down as usual.  And were also drying out shoes in the sun.  We had our windows open, when all of a sudden, the air turned a bit chilly.  The wind  began picking up and then we could see storm clouds moving towards us across the water and they were definitely bringing heavy rain with them!

We dropped what we were doing to run out and pack up the boat and other things that were drying outside.  We also noticed the house behind us was out pulling in the laundry (sheets, etc.), and then, nothing.  No rain.  We watched it move right around us.  Funny weather here.  😊

Here it comes!
And there it goes!

And that’s all she wrote.
