Four Hours And Fifty Minutes 11/06/19

Singing Hills RV Park, Cave City, Kentucky

Another day.  Another adventure!

I did much better biking today, which means I must be getting back in shape.  😊

The Park has a bike path that back in the late 1800s and early 1900s used to be a railroad track.  The Park purchased the property, tore up the structure, sold the ties and metal for scrap and made a hike/bike path.  A 20-mile path!  Okay, so it’s 10 miles one way, but you still have to get back, so that makes it 20 in my book.  And it’s graveled and Fall-leaf- covered, which makes it a little more difficult to navigate than asphalt or concrete.

And with a break for lunch, it still only took us just under five hours, which I think is pretty good!

Here’s where we’re traveling today. : )
We went down and back, and then up and back.
And we’re off!
What a beautiful day!
Blaine went a short distance back to the Jeep when we decided we should probably take lunch with us. Good thing we did, because at lunchtime, we were only halfway done. : )

We had to contend with swarms of ladybugs at various times along the way.  They seemed to especially enjoy Blaine’s gray t-shirt.

Attack of the ladybugs!!

One of the places we rode past was privately-owned Diamond Caves.  We considered a tour of their cave system, but decided we’d rather give our money to our National Park, so just a heads-up . . . we’ve decided to venture into the other side of the cave system there at the end of the week.  But I found a few pictures of Diamond so you can look at them and pretend we were there.  😊

The trail went alongside a busy road and an on-ramp to the expressway.
That’s Blaine up there under the bridge. I rang my bell to alert him I was falling behind, but he didn’t hear it. I had to wait for the semi that was turning.

Our trail kinda ended at Park City, Kentucky.  They’re supposed to have a bike trail around town, but we didn’t see any markers for it.  What we did spot was an old-looking building that looked like a wealthy person’s home, so we went to check it out.  It was on the other side of the tracks, so to speak, and turned out to be an Inn.

The end of our trail in Park City.
Over there’s the “house/inn” we saw.
Blaine says, “The room on the top floor is offered at a really deep discount, but it’s pretty hard to get into.” hahahaha!

From there, we were also able to see a falling down rock structure, so we went to check that out, too.

That turned out to be the remains of an old tavern, called ‘Bells Tavern’.  And once we were finished walking around it and taking too many pictures, we had lunch at the playground right next door.

Whatever this is, the fence you see in the foreground is around Bell’s Tavern.
But look what we found!
Aren’t old ruins cool?? We’d rather see the entire thing intact, but this’ll do.
They’ve tried to shore it up in a couple of places.
Here’s the whole thing. We took this picture just before we had lunch.

Great finds!

See the ruins?
What in the world kinda bug is that???
You can’t see it, but that dark part on the wing? It was a dark, shiny gold color!

Time to head back.  I expected to have more trouble than I did.  Sure, I had to walk my bike a couple of times, but once, Blaine had to walk his too!  😊

These things were all along the way.
So pretty! I had to stop and take a picture!
Ugh!!
We stopped at a cemetery and look what we discovered!
Remember that tree with all the thorns on it?
It’s a Locust Tree!
This seems to have “fresh” flowers on it, but there’s not much dirt around,
so we’re not sure if it’s a new grave, or just new flowers . . .
There were some interesting sign boards along the way.
We didn’t stop on the way out, just on the way back.
The breaks were very welcome! 🙂
Check out the next two pictures to see what the area looks like today.
What the area looks like today.
Time to take a walk! I don’t know how those bikers who go for miles and miles do it . . .
Just a tree I liked. : )
Interesting finds!!
Especially since we’ve seen inside the cave,
and can imagine what it looks like under our feet!
Neither one of us remember seeing this, but maybe it was too dark?
This train is from 1888 as the emblem states,
but take a look at all the ladybugs!!
All the spots you see are ladybugs!
Another old cemetery.
Not nearly as old as some we’ve seen in our travels, but old enough. : )
And we’re back to where we began our day!

It was a lovely day!  And for that, we are most grateful!
