Cotton Pickin’ 11/21/119

Northgate RV Park, Athens, Alabama

A wise man’s heart guides his mouth, and his lips promote instruction.  ~ Proverbs 16:23

We began our day with a magnificent gift from our Father!  A most gorgeous sunrise!  It’s easy to catch a sunrise here if there’s one worth noting, because it’s kinda late – around 6am.

We went outside and took our first picture at 6:15am. Being there to see it in person was indescribable!

There was a lot of stuff to do today, but not a lot you’d be particularly interested in hearing about.  I baked those cookies I didn’t get to the other day, we returned to the laundromat where I sat with laundry while Blaine went to the grocery store, we had leftover round steak for dinner, I tore up three loaves of bread for Thanksgiving stuffing, and picked up some leftover cotton from the field.  I plan on using that for a couple of gifts at Christmas.  It doesn’t weigh much, so we can pack it in our suitcase.  😊 I’ll have to clean it up first.

There they are! A half batch of Ginger Krackles!
And yes, the last few turned a little dark in the toaster oven for some reason. . . .
But they’re all still yummy goodness!
Someone at this laundromat is very talented. There were murals like this all over.
I just knew you’d want to see all that bread I tore up! : )
It’s gonna take some pickin’ at this cotton to make it suitable to give away. : )

And there were various other things that went on today, like trying to get all caught up on the blog.  I needed to do that, because since we’re visiting with my brother for the next week, I have no idea how much time I’ll be able to devote to this full-time job. Although, I know my mother will be chomping at the bit to hear how we all spent our time.  😊

And then there was Melba.  Melba has been our neighbor all the time we’ve been here.  We’ve barely seen her, but we see her cat every day because it likes the back of a chair we can see from our bathroom window.  It was several days before we even knew she had a small dog.  At any rate, Blaine met her when she asked for help with something she wasn’t strong enough to handle by herself.  And yesterday, she came over and knocked on our door to ask to borrow his strong arms again.  I sure hope she’s able to get herself packed up when it’s time for her to go, because this campground will be empty once we leave.  Maybe someone new will show up. . . .

That’s it for today.  Recipe follows.

GINGER KRAKLES

1 ½ C. butter

2 C. brown sugar

½ C. molasses

2 eggs

5 C. flour

4 t. baking soda

2 t. cinnamon

1 1/2 t. ginger

1 t. cloves

colored sugars

Cream shortening with brown sugar, molasses and eggs until well blended.  Combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon , ginger and cloves.  Add to creamed mixture and mix well.  Chill until dough can be handled easily -about 2 hours.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Form dough into 1” balls.  Roll each ball in colored sugar to coat well.  Place balls about 3” apart on cookie sheets covered with parchment paper.

Bake for 8-10 minutes until set but not browned.
