We both failed to notice that Northampton Beach Campground on Great Sacandaga Lake in the lower Adirondacks (still in New York) had no electric. . . . It’s amazing how that affects our life! In addition, cell service is very spotty and there’s not much internet service either. That’s why we were unable to work on the blog – couldn’t download pictures. Also, creative cooking was unexpectedly in order.
But it’s an absolutely beautiful, rustic campground! Soaring, wide-girthed pines, needles covering the ground and fingers of water all around us. It is a campground most suited for water enthusiasts. You have to drive for hiking. We were anxious to get our kayak in the water!
Our first morning, we awoke to the sound of rain on the roof of the coach. Very soothing.
Breakfast choice was cereal or fresh homemade donuts. Guess what? Blaine drove to the edge of the campground and bought donuts. 😊 According to the donut makers, it seems it’s supposed to rain until between 9-11am.
About 9:30, the rain stopped and we were ready to take the kayak out! There’s a perfect set-in spot right across from our campsite. It was a beautiful and interesting paddle out on the Sacadaga.
We enjoyed the sights, but there was one very interesting discovery – we paddled into a cove where flooding had eliminated the use of a picnic area.
Sunday morning, we skipped going to church.
I know, I know. But we have no intention of this becoming a habit. We researched and there were only 3 options in our area – Catholic (we’re not Catholic, so no.), Presbyterian (too traditional/high church for us, so no.), and Baptist. Now that sounded promising, however when Blaine went to their website, the Pastor was sporting a very stern looking face and the message this week was about the government – so nope! Instead, we did our own – reading about John the Baptist’s teaching in Luke – a section about life-application for faith. Then we spent extended time in prayer for our families – especially our boys and their families.
About 8:30am, we headed out to the lake again. What a wonderful blessing! Calm, still waters and no boats of any kind around! We discovered a great place to eat lunch – a weathered log facing the water, but the spot was taken when we got there at lunchtime, so we just sat in the boat and ate. We planned on entering it into our “Lunch Views”, but forgot the camera! We returned quickly to the coach because very dark clouds and rain was upon us. As Blaine was deflating the kayak, he discovered the camera – it was with us the whole time!
The afternoon found us biking around the large campground enjoying the scenery and the quiet.
Next stop – – – New Hampshire!
