Room and Board     1/17/18

Torreya State Park, Bristol, Florida

We woke to some freezing rain today.  Nothing even remotely like what we had in Jekyll Island, though!  But it’s supposed to be a dismal day, so we’re staying in.

I planned on spending most of my day in the kitchen – making chili, baking cookies (which get frozen to take hiking with us), and a yummy chocolate cake!  Blaine made waffles and sausage for breakfast.  Seriously?  We should be eating less today not more!

Anyway, I slipped into near panic mode right after breakfast as I gathered up my chili ingredients and discovered . . . . no tomato sauce!  I knew Blaine would have a small calf if I mentioned it, so I kept it together and didn’t let it slip, figuring you can find anything on Google.  I just knew there’d be a competent substitute out there somewhere.  There was.  At least I hoped it would be competent.  As I was searching the cupboard for what I needed, there was the sauce!  (Quietly exhaled huge sigh of relief!)  Here’s what happened – when we’d gone to the grocery store a while ago, the store didn’t have any of the large cans, so we bought 2 small ones.  I remember that . . . . now.  I was looking for that elusive large can that wasn’t there.  Boy, do I feel better!  And the chili smells great!

Of course, now it’s mingled with the scent of chocolate cake and fresh baked chocolate chip bettecookies – Nestles Tollhouse, of course, because N-E-S-T-L-E-S, Nestles makes the very best choc-late!

Blaine spent the day making reservations.  It’s a long and tedious task, but we’ve discovered it’s an absolute necessity.  There are so many people camping now, we really have no choice.  If we don’t, we may find we have no place to park our house.  Part of the reason is the size, but mostly it’s just volume.  Whodathunk?

After a high today of 40, (the sun came out for most of the day!)  it’s supposed to go down to 22 tonight.

We have no plans for tomorrow yet, but they better include some walking.  😊
