Over the River and Through the Woods

If you’re interested in all my recent posts, make sure you scroll down from here to pick up where you left off.  I added quite a few today!

We are now on the north (?) coast of New Brunswick after about a 5 hour drive on a highway, with virtually NO traffic!

A portion of Route 2. Most of the way was like this!  And yes, it was the middle of the day.

Pine trees by the ocean. Haven’t seen that before.

It’s flat.  And though not quite ocean, it’s the Bay of St. Lawrence, and it’s salt water.  And it’s beautiful!  We’re staying at the Bouctouche Campground.  We were expecting to be sandwiched in in row upon row of motorhomes, fifth-wheels and trailers, but they put us in a row virtually by ourselves.  We are so blessed!

Our first day out took us about an hour north to the Kouchibouguac National Park.  Established in 1969 when Canada decided to kick out the families that had lived there for generations and make the land into a park.  YIKES!  There was protesting and all kinds of ruckus as you can imagine, but of course, the government won.  20 years later, they passed a law that they could never uproot people to make a park again.

The ranger at the info desk told us about a great place to put in the kayak.  I have no words other than Serenity.

Getting our inflatable kayak ready.

Along the very short path to the water

On the water. Wonderful!

Why did the kayak cross the water?
To get to the other side, of course!!

Blaine decided to walk up to the top of the dune – against my better judgement. But this is what he saw.

We also hiked a short bog trail, and took the very long boardwalk to the beach where we walked along the shore admiring the view.

The bog trail view from an observation tower along the way.

A very tiny orchid along the trail. I’m sorry it’s blurry – the wind was blowing!

Boardwalk to the beach

Sorry. This one and the picture above are from a different day – different beach. This boardwalk and beach were at a Biopreserve near our campground.

This is an aerial view of the snake-like boardwalk there. I cheated and took a picture of their brochure.  Pretty cool, huh?  (the boardwalk, not my picture)

This is the beach at the National Park.

Complete with beached jellyfish!

They rent canoes and kayaks at the National Park.

This is a picture of  the windmills on PEI (Prince Edward Island) taken from somewhere over here. I’m not sure how far away it is, but it’s pretty far. We’ll be visiting it after Nova Scotia!

Today is ‘catch up on the blog’ and find more campgrounds day.  I told Blaine if I didn’t get it done today, we might as well forget it.  This blog thing, though very important (at least to me) takes a lot of time!  And even more if you get behind because there’s no internet service!  It’s kinda like scrapbooking!  I’m sure (actually I know) a lot of people don’t really read this, but it’s a journal for us of our adventures, if nothing else.
