Very Strange 06/17/20

Thousand Lakes RV Park, Torrey, Utah

The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who answer discreetly.  ~ Proverbs 26:16

Strong winds continued all night long, which means I didn’t sleep at all, and Blaine didn’t sleep well.  I guess saying I didn’t sleep at all is a bit of an overstatement.  I guess it’s better worded that I slept fitfully and woke a lot.  But what it boils down to is, I was exhausted when I crawled out of bed, and it didn’t get any better for quite some time.  Here’s a better example to help you understand – – I didn’t feel like doing any devotions or praying this morning. My mind just wouldn’t focus on anything.

We left early to tackle the Hickman Bridge trail.  It’s only 2 miles round trip, but it seems to be a very popular trail, as every time we’ve driven by, the parking lot has been filled to overflowing.

But today, the further we hiked, the worse I felt.

I don’t believe we noticed any prehistoric American Indian culture, or evidence of the CCC working here.
I’m pretty sure there would be pictures if we had. . .
Well, that doesn’t sound good, does it???
“What part of ‘rockfall, hazardous area’ did you not understand, my child-at-heart???”
He swore he was only joking around and wasn’t really jamming his hiking stick into the wall, but there it is.
In the wall. Good grief!
Okay. Maybe I was a little too irritable and irrational . . .
We’re almost through the hazard zone.
And we’re safe!
Black boulders were everywhere on tihs hike.
What a unique sign! Looks like fun, doesn’t it?!? : )
There’s the bridge!
The bridge is 133-feet long, and 125-feet above the ground.
Under the bridge and around the rest of the loop we go!
Most people turned around at the bridge, rather than complete the hike.
Not sure why. It was about the same distance either way.
The top of that rock reminded me of one of those carob beetles. : )
We caught this guy seconds before his color changed to blend in with the red rocks!
Looks like he’s missing part of his tail.
This was much lovelier in person.
I think hearing the babbling water adds to the view.
You can’t get that in a picture. : )

By the time we returned to the Jeep, I was exhausted and asked Blaine to take me home.  On the way, we stopped by the Gifford House, where we bought the cinnamon roll the other day, and bought two pies.  They’re not traditional sized pies.  They’re about the same size as the cinnamon roll we shared two days ago – strawberry rhubarb for me, apple for him.

Blaine drove me home.  I got comfortable, crawled into bed and immediately fell asleep – where I remained for nearly three hours.  Blaine left to explore on his own, after I’d admonished him to avoid cliff edges, etc.

I woke up to discover that I had a fever!  I dug around all our medical supplies, but never found a thermometer.  Now, why in the world wouldn’t we have kept a thermometer?  Probably because we never need one.  I have no other symptoms, thank goodness, and hopefully won’t have any.  Maybe it’s a reaction to all those bug bites I received the past two days . . .

Blaine was exceedingly concerned once he returned home, but since there were no other symptoms throughout the rest of the day, and my appetite wasn’t affected (homemade lasagna from the freezer, salad and garlic bread for dinner, and about a third of that scrumptious pie), his concern gradually ebbed away.

I think the “feed a cold, starve a fever” must be backwards. 😊

Whatever the reason for my fever of unknown origin, it seemed to be gone by bedtime, although the tiredness still lingered until the next morning. Praise God from Whom all blessings flow!  We’re soooo grateful it didn’t develop into anything!  Even though it remains unknown.

This is what Blaine was up to, while I slept today . . . .

He found a hiking trail, only 3 miles from the campground.
Lots of evidence of elk in the area.
what’s left of a deer.
He was gone for about four hours.
