Fisher Towers 07/01/20

Portal RV Resort, Moab, Utah

Stone is heavy and sand a burden, but provocation by a fool is heavier than both.  ~ Proverbs 27:3

We made it to July and our last hike in Utah – Fisher Towers.  We drove into a different part of town to get to this hike that Blaine had found comments online like, “It’s the best hike in all of Utah, and I’ve hiked a lot.”

It was pretty spectacular, but the best in Utah?  Don’t think I’d agree with that.  See what you think.

We had to break out the hiking sticks today, something we’ve not needed for quite some time.  It was without a doubt a good decision, as we surely needed them, except for on the ladder.

One of the first things we noticed here,
was the deeper red color of the rocks.
There was a lot of ‘melting’ rock around here.
Gulp! There’s the ladder!
Easy for Blaine, who’s climbed ladders most of his life. : )
Here we go! Slow and steady . . .
We spent a few minutes up here, then headed back down.
Those are people!

On the way back home, we stopped at the Red Cliffs Lodge to check out a museum that was recommended by the guy from Gearheads.  It’s a history museum about the movie industry here in Moab and nearby Monument Valley (We were planning on visiting MV, but were unable due to the Navajo Nation closing it because of COVID-19).  Very interesting!  But a bit overwhelming with soooo much information.  It was nicely presented though.

Outside the lodge, Blaine checked on this stuff with his app. Some kind of sage. The bees sure loved it!
The had a nice constantly running video on the movie making in the area.
This was Thelma’s stunt double for the drive off the cliff. : )

Blaine went out on his own in the afternoon.  Too hot for my taste.  But he had a great time at Corona Arch.

As he hiked, he discovered where they grow all those cairns they place on the trails! 😉

This is bowtie arch.
He had to wait for about 5 minutes, for a slow group to come down the cable section.
Corona arch is a massive arch, freestanding on one end
Interesting swirls in the rock, almost looks like it was cut with a saw.
this was a very large area, about 20’ across.
Notice the person sitting under the arch.

After he returned from his hike, he found a Jeep road to explore.  He even took pictures while he was driving!  I’ve trained him well!  Just look past the smashed bug spots.

Doesn’t look like the jeep should fit, but it did.
These are its views from the top.
Notice the road below!

We had plans for dinner out tonight, our last in Moab, so once we cleaned up, we took on our next adventure – – a Thai restaurant!  We ate at a Thai restaurant once, many years ago when my boss gathered some of us up to meet there.  But since we knew nothing about Thai food, she ordered for us.  We remembered that it was really good, but we couldn’t remember what we ate.  So after talking to our server at Thai Bella, we made our selection.  Teriyaki Chicken for Blaine, Drunken Noodles for me.  And no, I don’t know why they call it that.  There was no alcohol in it.  Both dishes were superb!!  And we ate outside in a nice garden area with instrumental music softly playing.  It was still a bit warm, but comfortable.  Wonderful way to end the day!

Drunken Noodles
Look how beautiful they plated it!
Teriyaki Chicken
Not a great picture of me – mid bite, but you can see the outside. : )
There were other tables of people the other direction. : )

And a great way to end our abundantly blessed time in Utah!! Now on to Colorado!
