Wanna guess? What do you think this is? I’ll share three pictures to help you.
We got our first glimpse as we drove thru town to our campground and had been waiting for better lighting to take pictures. We had no idea what it could be. But then, at the Irving Eco Centre, we learned that it’s oyster farming! Did you know that it takes 4-5 years for an oyster to become harvestable? We certainly didn’t! It’s a wonder they don’t cost more than lobster!
We were out having dinner and doing a bit of sightseeing around town.
I had asked at the office for a recommendation for buying and eating seafood. They told me there were only 2 restaurants in town. They insisted that Pirate de la Mer (Pirate by the Sea) was the best, so that’s where we went. Ummm….. it was good, but if that’s the best??? Anyway, we bought a lobster roll dinner – came with two lobster rolls (lobster salad on a glorified (and better) hot dog bun, a tiny container of coleslaw and two enormous plates of fries. We opted for half/half – half fries and half poutine. Now, our son Kyle had told us about poutine being very popular in Canada. It’s French fries covered with cheese curds and gravy. We decided to try it, but this place used mozzarella instead of curds, so we’ll have to try again. BTW- the only seafood they sell is frozen.
Just down the street a bit is this place.
He’s a famous woodcarver in these parts. “WoodChuck”. A few things were for sale, but much of the eclectic place was just filled with all kinds of stuff – license plates, keys, tea cups, you know. Stuff. But his carvings are remarkable!
Sunday morning, we headed out to worship. Finally, a church where the message is clear and on point and the people exude Christian joy and fellowship! This week, Blaine chose Grace Church in Bouctouche, New Brunswick. It was a bit tricky to find (thank goodness we live in GPS days!) and at one point it took us on this dirt road that was Jeep-worthy. But we made it with a few minutes to spare.
Probably a dozen people welcomed us, including the pastor. They all had smiles and even those who didn’t get to us beamed with the light only the Holy Spirit can give. You could see it on their faces and in their worship and their response to the message. Jesus surely looks down on them and smiles. If we lived around here, this is where we would go! In addition, Paul and Silas were both there, so how could they go wrong? : ) Those of you who know your New Testament will get that last sentence. lol)
Today’s message was taken from I Samuel and the journey of Samuel’s ministry. In a nutshell, how to get past the ‘feelings’ and getting on to the ‘experience’ of knowing God. So many people think they’re Christians, or we think they are because they say and do all the ‘right things’. But unless you’ve actually experienced Him, you don’t really know Him.
After church, we went on a bike adventure! The start of the trail was grass, then woods (complete with tree roots), then dirt (complete with dirt bikes and ATVs – but courteous ones!), then a walking/bike trail thru the woods with crushed stone pavement, then a road. We opted to skip the road and went back.
As you can see, there’s also been some logging along the trail.
Along the way, Blaine spotted a very large bird. We stopped and watched and listened to it as it flew around before landing in its nest. It was an osprey!
