We arrived in Nova Scotia on Thursday, July 20th after a 5 ½ hour drive with 4,000 miles on our home. 2,500 from this trip alone.
I have to say, it’s nothing like New Brunswick. So far, it’s waaaay more commercialized. We hit highway traffic and billboards as soon as we crossed the bridge. The info center was so crowded with other RVers, Blaine had to park across a bunch of car spaces. We hated doing that, but we had no choice. Inside was packed with people.
I know it looks deserted, but trust me, it wasn’t!
I discovered that in 2016, they had an estimated 2.2 million visitors! And keep in mind, that’s only in about a 3 ½ – 4 month period. (Most things around here are only open mid-June through September.) Their resident population is just under 1 million.
And our campground, Bras d’ Or (pronounced ba dor) is almost full. They seem to have packed us Americans all together. There’s representation from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas and Louisiana. And that’s just our immediate neighbors. But I must say, the people staying here are all very friendly. They are actually willing to have conversations with us!

Anyway, the campground is named after the enormous lake here in the middle of Cape Breton Island. It means ‘golden arm’.
If you look down the road in front of our coach, you can see a small arm of the lake. The campground owns up to the water and they have chairs sitting down there if you have the time to sit. You can also walk down to what passes for a beach. It’s barely wide enough to walk on and not more than a dozen steps in either direction, but the views are nice!

There’s a zoo here someplace that advertises lots of animals, including black bears and moose. I’m thinking of going there and getting pictures for our blog. Who would know??
