We’ve found Prince Edward Island to be a bit underwhelming. We hadn’t planned on visiting here and in hindsight, kinda wish we’d skipped it and spent more time in Nova Scotia. But with everyone telling us, “You simply must go! It’s so wonderful!”, we felt we’d really be missing out if we didn’t. So we did.
PEI is another province in Canada. Can you name them all? I’ll give you a hint – – there are 10.
Blaine had to drive in rain a good bit of the day today as we headed to our next destination – Twin Shores Campground in Darnley, PE (they leave the “I” off here for some reason). To get here, we had to cross an 8-mile bridge, which turns into a toll bridge when you decide to leave. Leave – pay $62.50 to get out. Stay – you don’t pay anything. Kinda weird, huh? And I’m thinkin’ at that price, they really don’t want us to leave!
Our first night on Prince Edward Island was quite surprising!
When we got to our site, we were met with high winds (and I mean HIGH!) and driving rain most of the day and into the night. We had to set up in between the raindrops. And some during. Wind that rocked the coach – until 1am when it suddenly stopped. I know, because I was awake. It was the ‘perfect storm’ of reasons not to be able to sleep – everything and anything kept me awake or woke me up.
Shortly after we were set up, you won’t believe who pulled in right beside us! Friends from my Mom’s church, Dave and Cathy Clark, whom we’ve known practically all our lives! We talked to them a couple of weeks ago when they told us they were on their way up here and wanted to know where we were and could we get together for dinner somewhere. Of course, we said, “Sure! Call us when you’re close and we’ll tell you where we are.” So, they had called earlier that day and we told them “Twin Shores”, and a few hours later, there they were! Right beside us!
Sunday – – no churches again! ☹ There was a Catholic one close by, but the nearest Protestant one was a 30 minute drive and their website said the service was two hours – or sometimes more! Sorry, but I’m not spending 3 or more hours of my day that way. I love the Lord with all my heart, but not as a visitor! So we hopped on The Chapel’s site and listened to Pastor Mike Castelli.
After church we headed to a local Provincial Park (like our State Parks), called Cabot Beach. Cloudy and a bit cool, but we had a nice walk on the beach and God presented me with the opportunity to teeter-totter with a very sad looking little boy trying to do it by himself. God can use us in all kinds of ways, if we’re willing!
We visited a local fish market (that’s another really good thing here – the Province has gobs and gobs of retail fresh fish markets! YEAH!!!) and bought salmon from New Brunswick and scallops. The salmon was excellent! And cut from a fillet that must have been a good 2’ long! That’s a BIG fish! The scallops were also very good! I’m just glad I finally figured out how to make them right!
Here’s the list of Provinces:
From left to right – British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador (yep, it’s all one), New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia + 3 large Territories that run across the top of Canada– Yukon, Northwest and Nunavut.
So how’d ya do???
