It’s kayaking this morning! I love this too! Paddling on glassy smooth Great Long Pond as the loon trills his lonely cry from the water. So peaceful!
Another boat (sort of a canoe/kayak hybrid?) shared the quiet with us, but they had 2 Corgi’s (a breed of dog) strapped in their boat between the woman’s feet. We noticed the couple wasn’t very practiced in the art of paddling together (or the dogs were in the way 😊 )which meant they were zig-zagging around the pond. We quickly left them behind.
We checked out a flock of ducks – can you believe they let us get this close?
On the way back to shore, we encountered a flotilla of canoes. We weren’t sure if they were just rentals that all happened to put in at the same time, or if they were a group. Then, just as we arrived, this guy was putting in his boat. It was loud and stinky! We were soooo glad we were done!
Our next adventure was to climb a Fire Tower. Blaine had read that they were having an Open House today, so we didn’t want to miss it. What they neglected to mention was the strenuous climb you had to make just to get to the tower! And then you had to climb up!
And where was my stick?? Laying quietly in the back of the Jeep. At the foot of the trail.
To back up a bit, we had a really hard time finding the trail. We knew we were in the right place, but we couldn’t find the right trail – there were a couple in the same area, and no markers to tell you where to look. We spoke to a couple of ladies who were about to go up a trail, but they didn’t know. Then a man came down the same trail who had no idea what we were talking about, so that eliminated that direction.
Did I ever mention that voices really carry around this Park? Well, it’s good they do as a man in the parking lot heard us and had just come from the tower! Yea!!!
Although my knees protested on the way up, it was a wonderful place to be! The tower steps and landings are made of metal and you can see straight down, though so that was a little unnerving at first. 😊
We hadn’t had lunch yet and those 2 ladies I told you about earlier had mentioned they like the trail they were going on because of the spectacular views. So up we went again. Guess what? My stick had rested long enough! At first I just carried it, but it came in handy a few times. Thanks, Lance and Kelli!
When we got to the top we found a great spot to eat! A young girl by herself asked to share our spot and then took this phenomenal picture of the two of us! She was on her way back to Colorado and an interview with Frontier Airlines to be a flight attendant. We think she’ll make a good one.
We finished our day early, so after dinner we took a walk around the neighborhood. Have you ever seen this kind of view from a campground pool?
INDIANS UPDATE: They tied the American League record today!! 20 consecutive
games! Can they break it? Yes, they can! But will they???
Go Tribe!!!!!
