Time At The Beach 9/21-22/17

We actually slowed down for just a couple of days.  We’ve left the Acadia National Park area and traveled south 188 miles (3 ½ hours) to the Wagon Wheel Campground in Old Orchard Beach, Maine.  Their actual address is 3 Old Orchard Beach Road, Old Orchard Beach, Maine.  Whadaya think of that?  How would you like to have to write out that address all the time?  Oh!  And there’s an Orchard Beach Road close by as well!

There are enormous pine trees in this campground!  The ship-mast tall kind!  I tried to take a picture of one of the ones by our coach, but couldn’t get it all in.

We’re about 3 minutes’ drive from the Atlantic Ocean and just north of Kennebunkport – the Bush family’s summer home.

After we got set up, we went to check out the ocean.  Now THIS looks like the Atlantic we’re used to,  but the rocky coast lines of Maine and Canada are truly beautiful.  Large waves will continue to roll in for a couple of days complements of hurricane Maria offshore.

We started walking to the pier which was at least a mile away, just like we did all the years we vacationed at Holden Beach, North Carolina.  We passed some teenage boys jumping waves and it reminded me of our boys doing the same.  Ah, nostalgia . . . .

The pier area has a small amusement park that’s closed up for the season, and there are restaurants and stores all along the actual pier.

One of them had a giant marshmallow gun on top of it with a sign.  More nostalgia as I remembered the Christmas my mom gave Blaine, our two boys and my brother these guns along with tiny marshmallows.  Suddenly, my sons, sister-in-law and I were shooting marshmallows at each other all over Mom’s house!  What a blast we had!  Of course, we cleaned up, but years later when she moved, she still found one or two.  😊  One of our fondest memories!

The next day took us to Ferry Beach State Park.  There were all kinds of trails to explore, including one that went to the beach.  The only people we saw during the time we were there were two women leaving as we arrived and one jogger as we were heading back.  It looked like maybe it’s more frequented during the summer as there were nice facilities with showers and an outdoor foot-wash station.

You just never know what you’ll learn at a State Park! : )

There were still large waves today, as we discovered once we traversed the very deep sand to get to the beach.  We suspected as much, since we could hear them so clearly as we walked the woods.

We had to eat lunch in the Jeep today.  We left late and it was time to see the movie we planned on attending.  The theater was soooo interesting!  They actually have tables and you can order food and the staff brings it to you.  It was a full menu of all kinds of things!  The chairs are like really cushy lay-back office chairs on wheels so you can turn around once you’re done eating. We had no idea! We saw the new Kingsman movie.  It was good, but the language was horrific.  Why do they have to ruin a perfectly good movie with all that??

Blaine made hamburgers over the open fire for dinner.  They were soooo good!  And we used our McDonald’s Big Mac sauce.  😊

I think he needs help with the concept of roasting marshmallows!

Actually, these were gross ones we bought in Canada. They were too big to roast properly and weren’t nearly as good as Jet-Puffed!
And the new ones we bought are actually flatter and SQUARE!
Perfect for s’mores!

It only takes a spark, to get a fire going . . . Come on now, join in . . .   I know every one of you who’s been to church camp (and maybe some who didn’t) knows this song.  Stuck in your head now isn’t it?
