Lucy and the Lighthouse 10/04-05/17

We left Crazy Acres and continued our trek westward, driving longer than any time before – 297 miles in about 5 hours.  For approximately three of those hours, Blaine had to battle the wind for control of the beast we call home as he continually wrestled it onto the ribbon of highway until we arrived at our new destination – Hidden Valley Campground in Jamestown, NY.

This campground was much bigger than it first appeared!  We went for a walk and found a swing bridge that led to another section of sites.  Fun!

This sign was at the start of the bridge.
It WAS pretty dark over there as there were a lot of trees. : )

We only had one day here, so we went sightseeing.

Sorry, but we went to a cemetery again. However, we actually knew someone at this one. : )

Close by there was a Tim Horton’s!  That was also a surprise!  On a whim, we stopped and picked up donuts. : )

The path to Lucille Ball and her family.
They had these red hearts in the road leading here.

Honestly, we were surprised this was all there was. We were expecting something more elaborate

The lighting was horrible and this was the best we could do.
Where’s Arnez???

But of course, we didn’t stop there.  😊

We were glad that someone on TripAdvisor had mentioned how to get into the cemetery near Lucy, otherwise we would have had a hard time finding her.  There are actually 3 different areas of this Lake View Cemetery!  It’s enormous!

Check out some of these memorials we found.

This one was surrounded by a dozen or so family members, but it was fairly new (relatively speaking) because the oldest was 1927.

This was really interesting to read!
It’s the first erected in this cemetery.
I included two close-ups in case you want to read.

Big Bang fans – check this out! It must be, because there are no dates on it yet! : )

This was so beautiful (despite the missing hand), but sad because there were no dates. It was obviously old, so we wondered if those it was planned for didn’t end up here?

Check out the three pics that go with this one

We couldn’t figure out who this one belonged to. No names, just a carving on the front that said “Elk Rest”.
Think someone’s elk is buried here??

I told Blaine I’d get him one of those large monuments so people 200 years from now would read about my deep love for him, but when I tried to research the cost, no one makes them anymore.  But it would probably be waaaay out of my price range if they did!  Just a headstone starts at $1,200 . . .

We headed out in search of a lighthouse.  We found it, such as it was, and at the same location were the Lucy statues we were going to look for.  It was great that they were all in the same place – The Lucille Ball Memorial Park, but we had lighting issues for the one statue.

This is the first bronze statue donated to the town of Celoron – Lucy’s childhood hometown.
Just as we’d read – it was scary-looking!
What would possess someone to think this looked anything like her????
It was donated in 2009

MUCH, MUCH better!!!
This one was donated in 2016

The only thing left on our agenda was groceries, and the question became, “Where in the world do people buy groceries around here??”  We’re so used to things being close by!  We’re spoiled . . .   But we finally found one, however they had no suitable desserts for watching the Indians, so I had to go home and bake a cake.  😊

INDIANS UPDATE:  The Indians started their play-off run with a 4-0 win over the Yankees in the 5 game Divisional series.
