This morning, since it was still a bit dreary, we took a walk around the campground. It’s a good-sized place. 😊 Then Blaine took the time to find the route to our next place. The RV’s GPS says we can’t get there from here, frustrating Blaine to no end, but he’s very persistent and eventually he figured out the way. Whew!!
After some discussion, we opted to take part of yesterday’s hike backwards today, but also taking the Cedar Rock Connector Trail which we skipped yesterday. We didn’t go that way yesterday because we wanted the longer hike and it just looked like a short-cut on the map.
Shortly after we started, Blaine spied a log he wanted. He hefted it to his shoulder and took off for the Jeep, leaving me alone in the middle of the tornado-ravaged woods for about 15 minutes. No, I wasn’t scared. What’s the worst that could happen? We’ve already established I’m critter-repellent. And no one else was in the park yet. Besides, I had two walking sticks!
The connector trail was very steep, even though the picture doesn’t look like it!
But, My Oh My! What we missed along this short but steep section!
Can you tell I brought my phone today?? : )
And then, much to our surprise, there was an up-close and personal view of Stone Mountain!
After taking in the view and wishing the sun would shine on it, we moved on, finding more places we just had to take in along the way . . .
…before stopping again at Wolf Rock.
As we sat there, the sun popped out for a few moments. Had we known what sunshine would do to these hills, we woulda been hiking last Friday instead of shopping at WalMart! Oh. Wait. We HAD to go to WalMart to try to find bug spray for our infestation. Bummer! We can just imagine what these hills looked like a week ago when the leaves were still mostly on the trees! And we were reminded once again that God gave this gift to us!
We stopped by the Hutchinson Homestead again to get pictures while the sun was shining. Not sure if they look much different, but here’s a comparison:
Well! Whadaya know! What a difference the sun makes!
Dinner tonight was hot dogs on the open fire – courtesy of the log Blaine picked up and some other stuff he snagged from the woods around us. It was a terrific fire! Kept us warm as the sun set around 5pm and the temperatures plummeted to the mid-40’s. The s’mores were pretty terrific too! We were done and inside by 6:30 after spending about 3 hours huddled around the flames.
