Henderson Beach State Park, Destin, Florida
(The title seemed appropriate with it being football season)
Opening the shades this morning revealed a potentially glorious sunrise! We threw on coats and headed out just short of a trot. It was! They look a lot like the sunset pictures, but the color is off. It was actually a lot more pink in the morning. And if you look close, you’ll notice the background is different. The sun rises on one side of the boardwalk and sets on the other. : )
Oh. And the waves are up again! Sounds and looks great! The red flags are back out today.
We’ll have to try to make it a little earlier next time. 😊
Blaine suggested breakfast out. Mickie D’s was close and he loves their pancakes. Would you believe it? They were playing Christian music! Terrific way to start our day!
After a couple of hours working on things like the blog and things to do in the area, we settled on a visit to the HarborWalk. We had read several places that it was “not to be missed!” So here we are – –
It would have been ok if we’d missed it. It was just a few typical beach shops (fudge, kites, etc.) and places to sign up for various tours. Most of the time you couldn’t even see water unless you walked down to it, but I’ll bet it’s a really hoping place once the weather starts to warm up!
These next three pictures are the view from the shops. The crane was working. Doing what, I don’t know.
The walk along the harbor was interesting. There was an enormous amount of money tied up to the docks! There was a kiosk with ads for yachts for sale. One can be yours for a mere half a mil or so!
While we were out, we also ran a couple of errands, including our first stop in a Beals store. I guess they’re kinda like Kohl’s. Lots of nautical themed stuff and clothes. We walked around a bit, mostly because Blaine really needed a new pair of shorts – which he ended up buying. : )
Besides the sunrise, it was our late lunch that made the day. Dewey Destin’s was recommended by our camp host the other day and he was right!
Excellent grilled shrimp!
Well, actually the entire meal was excellent, but the ambiance made it a delight – – dolphins playing, and fighter jets flying overhead, seagulls screaming for food they didn’t really need – – it was wonderful!
