Jennings Ferry Campground, Akron, Alabama
We woke to beautiful scenery! Love this campsite!
After lunch we launched our kayak right from the backyard and headed left to check out the houses on the water. There were some lovely blooms and some interesting homes. Especially of note for us were the mobile homes on stilts. Even Blaine was wondering how they got them up there!
We’re kayaking on a fork of the Black Warrior River. The Black Warrior is the one the barge came down our first night here.
Once we got to the end, we turned around and went the other way, toward the River.
We had a great time on this mostly glassy water. It got churned up a bit whenever a fishing boat came by, but it’s a “No Wake” zone, so there’s not much fun riding wakes today. ☹
We were out about 1 ½ hours.
Later on, Blaine decided to take a bike ride. I opted out to work on the blog. It’s a good thing!
He ventured down a dirt road and was chased down by a pit bull! He was able to out run it, thank goodness! And just as he was breathing easy, the road ended. The only way home was to go past the dog again. YIKES!
His guardian angel had to work a double shift as he flew down the road with the demon dog nipping at his heels and tires!
Like I said. It’s a good thing I didn’t go. I never would have been able to out pedal him, and Blaine would have been worried about me and probably done something chivalrous, like get off and try to fend him off.
It was such a nice day, we went back out on the water in the evening, but the sun was so blindingly bright, we had to turn around and go back home. It wasn’t just the sun we had to deal with, it was also the reflection off the water. Ouch!! It’s really hard to stear when your eyes are closed!
