I Can Only Imagine
A song released by MercyMe in 2001, I can remember hearing it on the radio for the first time and thinking, “I can’t believe they’re playing that on the radio!” There is absolutely no question that it’s a Christian song.
Well, now they’ve made a movie about it. Please don’t miss this movie! It’s why, even though I’m still behind on my posts, I’m putting this in now.
It’s cold here in Alabama, and sleeting, and Blaine was getting antsy to get out. He started looking for something indoor to do today and found a theater. He checked the movie listings and found I Can Only Imagine.
Not really having any idea what it was going to be about, we went. Because we know the song and MercyMe is Blaine’s favorite Christian artist.
It’s about the life MercyMe’s lead man, Bart Millard, lived that led him to write what is the best-selling Christian single of all time. And a song recognized, even by those in the pop/country genre. It made Billboards Top 100 list at #76 and climbed to #71, remaining on the chart for 16 weeks.
What a well-acted, well-cast, moving movie! It will touch you – Christian or not. It’s that good.
I can only imagine what it will be like
When I walk, by your side
I can only imagine what my eyes will see
When you face is before me
I can only imagine
I can only imagineSurrounded by Your glory
What will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus
Or in awe of You be still
Will I stand in your presence
Or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah
Will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine
I can only imagineI can only imagine when that day comes
When I find myself standing in the Son
I can only imagine when all I would do is forever
Forever worship You
I can only imagine
I can only imagineSurrounded by Your glory
What will my heart feel
Will I dance for You, Jesus
Or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in your presence
Or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah
Will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
