We’re Cheeseheads!     6/11/18

Peninsula State Park, Fish Creek, Wisconsin

Well, not technically.  Technically, a Cheesehead is someone from Wisconsin or a fan of the Green Bay Packers.  We’re neither.  But we are big fans of cheese!  And we’re now in Wisconsin!

Close enough for me.

Mosquitos were attacking Blaine as he prepped the coach to leave this morning.  They were swarming as we hooked up the Jeep, too.  Hopefully, this isn’t a sign of bugs to come this summer!

Another long day of driving as we traveled 235 miles in about 4 hours of actual driving, mostly on horrific roads.  Not potholes, but extremely rough surface.  Who designed this, anyway?  Some good marketer must have talked Wisconsin into resurfacing with their “product”.  I hope they made lots of money, because surely the State won’t do it again!  Buying diesel and a short break to eat lunch took roughly an additional 30 minutes. Oh.  And there was also some wind today.

THERE’s Waldo!!

Headed for the Bay

Hopefully, this signs are irrelevant while we’re in town!

All the barns we’ve seen have silos like this.
Different than we’re used to.

Our first glimpse of Lake Michigan from Wisconsin as we cross over a drawbridge.

The first cow!
I know. It sounds weird.
But since dairy is so prevelent in Wisconsin, we really thought all the farms we passed would have them.
Now we’re almost to our destination, and it’s the first.
Maybe they don’t have so many on the Peninsula?

Steep grade!

The trek into the campground was an experience today as well.

This is before the campground drive got crazy.
In a few seconds, that’s gonna change!

Narrow busy road that seemed it would never end.  Cars, bikes and walkers all along the way.  At one point, there was a couple trying to ride their bikes right beside the coach!  The road was barely wide enough for us and one little bump would have sent them tumbling off their bikes!  They finally stopped and I heard the guy say, “Just let ‘im go.”  In a really disgusted tone.  Really?  Did they think we were going to follow them the entire way?  I was following the coach in the Jeep, so that’s why I heard it.  About the same time, I also heard Blaine toot the horn.  I thought it was to scare them off, but in fact, he said there was a little kid (about 3-4 years old) in front of him who swerved his bike out into the road!  And yeah, he was with his dad. Geesh!

The only other thing to report from the road today – Discover Card called while we were on the road.  Apparently, someone somewhere took our credit card number and used it for nefarious purposes.  Rats!  Now we have to get new cards.  It’s just the Discover Card, not our identity.  Whew!  Thank the Lord!

Oh.  Did you think we were finished for today?

No.  No.  No.

We had to explore some!  We’re on Lake Michigan after all!

We took a walk around a bit to see what’s in the Park.

Don’t know what kind of bird that was.
We didn’t even realize we captured it until we saw the picture. : )

Posted above the sink in the ladies room.
That’s a lot of bathrooms and a lot of people!

These beautiful flowers are each about the size of the head on a quilting pin.
In other words, itty bitty!
But just look at the detail!

Same flowers.
They grow all over.

Same boat, different viewpoint
