Before And After     7/09/18

Arrowhead RV Resort, Ely, Minnesota

We got new neighbors ‘across the street’ late yesterday afternoon.  They brought a yappy little dog with them.   It barked the entire time it was outside – from it’s little stroller.  Eeeee gads!  We’re glad we we’re leaving.

I probably wouldn’t have even mentioned it, except the stupid thing woke us up at 12:45am!  The thing barked for at least five minutes and the owners did nothing to stop it.  Needless to say, we woke a bit grumpy this morning – – the second time we woke up.

Before we left Ely today, we took a drive and hike back to Kawishiwi Falls.  My, Oh, MY!  We thought there was a lot of water six days ago?  We were stunned to see it today after the rain we had during the night!  In fact, it was so powerful, even I could hear it as we hiked the trail!  So now you get a whole bunch of waterfall pictures to skim over again: )

This is the picture we took the first day we visited, 7/3/18.

This is today!

Today!  We have rainbows today, too!

To say we were mesmerized would be pretty accurate!

Double rainbows!

You can see the water pouring through the dam in this picture.

Then it was time to move on.

Grand Marais Campground and Marina, Grand Maria, Minnesota (20 miles south of Canadian Border)

So first, the pronunciation.  It’s not Maris.  It’s Ma-RAY.  I’m pretty sure it’s French, but don’t quote me.

Our drive today was fraught with peril as we bumped and banged our way up 106 miles of bad road.  It looked okay, but the coach didn’t agree with our assessment.  And when the coach is miserable, it makes us that way too because it gets really loud in here.

It’s not really as bad as all that, just a bit overdramatic, but it is louder in here, and it was bumpier.  😊

We were 28 minutes later than planned because of road work, too.

We were studying those things on the ground. They seem to be barbells (?????)
I guess you need something to pass the time when you have this job.

They sent us through while this was still in the road.

The Jeep had a blast. The coach? Not so much.

Clear sailing for a bit

Pretty!

Stop again.

They were letting all these trucks through which seemed to be very confusing for the cars behind them. who WEREN’T allowed through. Probably because they couldn’t see around us to know what was going on.

Finally, we got a “Follow Me” car.

Somebody better move. We can’t fit through that like the car did!

Blaine was riding the edge.

And we’re done!
We followed that car several miles.

There’s an ATV trail alongside us, but we didn’t see anyone using it.

That, my friends, is Lake Superior!
Stunning isn’t it?

Initially, we thought those were islands, but they ended up being clouds. : )

We passed a couple of humorous signs along the way:

  1. Scattered Bumps (Yep. An official yellow sign)
  2. Naughty Pine Road (Yep. An official street sign. Wonder what they do there . . . )

This place is actually a municipal campground.  It’s not bad, but it’s really busy and the neighbors are tight.  But what a great view up the street from the front of the coach!

That’s our neighbor’s truck, sitting bumper to bumper with the Jeep.

We partook of an early dinner and then went for a stroll into town.  We weren’t really planning on hiking, but one thing led to another . . . .

Unique storefront!

I ended up being a bit overdressed, but when we stepped out the door, it was chilly, so I went back in and changed from shorts to jeans.  I shoulda left the shorts on.  It was quite a bit warmer outside of the campground.

You can’t see it, but that’s our campground just beyond the lighthouse, but it takes a long walk to get here! : )

We learned that red-topped building is the Coastguard.

From an information board.
Wouldn’t it be great to see Lake Superior like this?!?!?!?

I’m always amazed at the way people used to dress to climb around on these rocks.
In skirts like that, I’m certain I would’ve been a total klutz and probably lost my hat to boot!

Vacationing

Awwwww. . . .

It was a nice evening!
