Improvisation      7/21/18

Penn Lake Park Campground, Marathon, Ontario, Canada

The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to Him and are safe.  Proverbs 18:10

Our new ‘back yard’!

Today was what we call a ‘down day’.  A day to get caught up on things like laundry, cleaning, blogging (well, as you know, I’m rarely caught up!) and often, when we get to a new place, we need groceries.

Once outside, we discovered we had a visitor!  I guess he’s used to visitors, because he didn’t seem to mind us too much.  At least not until Blaine got just a little too close for comfort.  But he managed a great picture!  He said it made him think of a chocolate rabbit.  Ha!

We wondered if it’s a snowshoe hare because the legs on it are really long. We couldn’t get a good look at the feet though.

When we took off, we drove around town first, stopping at Pebble Beach (although if those were pebbles, lovely as they were, I’d hate to see what they call rocks!) and another area called Peninsula Harbor that, while pretty, seemed like it’d seen better days.

That’s Blaine, attempting to skip rocks.
It was hard to find the right kind on this beach, but he manage a couple.

We briefly considered kayaking here, but after reading this sign, probably not. . . .

We found the laundry.  A nice little place, that was irrefutably the cleanest and emptiest laundromat we’ve ever visited.  They actually do have laundry here at the campground, but it’s only one washer and one dryer and you have to drive to get there.  Plus, Blaine said he saw a ‘weird guy’ hanging out there.  By going to the laundromat, we can do it all at once in one-third the time.  And thankfully, there were no ‘weird’ guys skulking about.

They had all these professionally made signs hanging up all over the walls.

With clean clothes and towels in the back of the Jeep, our next and final stop was the grocery store, where we found ourselves at their mercy.

Many of the shelves were pretty bare, including the produce and meat sections.  According to one of the teens unboxing salads, they were in the process of unloading inventory, but that didn’t help us much at the time.  We had to improvise on the spot for dinner since we were unable to buy half the things on our list!  Makes for a small bill, but this looks nothing like my Mom’s meatloaf and mashed potatoes!

Here’s a funny (at least for me) – – this day is the 21st and this post has 21 pictures!  Ha!
