Invasion     8/11/18

Aune-Osborn Campground, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan

But this is what the Sovereign LORD says:  “This invasion will never happen; it will never take place.”  Isaiah 7:7

Our morning quiet time was invaded by the military at 7:00am.  For reasons yet unknown, they showed up and removed the dock at the end of our “street” behind us, just on the other side of the fence.

By 10:00am, it became apparent that this wasn’t just a “dock removal”, as more and more equipment and soldiers appeared. They were kinda slow moving, and we figured it was some kind of National Guard exercise since the Guard office is just down the street.

Boats?

What in the world is that?

We don’t know what that is either.

We watched off and on while we got ready to go back into town.  There were people beginning to line up in the corner of the campground – with and without chairs – to see what was going on.  I asked a lady and she said, she was told they do this every year and would be practicing all day long.

There were quite a few more people observing than this picture would indicate.

We left.

Before we got to downtown, we stopped to check out the historic homes we saw from the Tower of History the other day.  We couldn’t get into them, but still got a few pictures and some additional information.

That’s the stern of the Valley Camp and the bow of a cruise ship.
Wonder how busy it’ll be in town?

Bishop Frederic Baraga House
No additional information on his place, but I got an idea to put my phone tight up against one of the windows so I could take a picture of the inside. : )

Henry Rowe Schoolcraft’s Indian Agency Office and home.

John Johnston House
Someone planted an apple tree.
We were tempted to pick one and try it out, but weren’t brave enough.
Kept thinking about the ones in “The Wizard of Oz” and didn’t want to cause a scene.

I put my phone on the window here too.

We walked past the Coast Guard station. Nothing there to speak of, except this picture.

We stumbled upon free parking today!  Nice, because we didn’t have to clock-watch that way.

We wandered up and down the main street several times today.  Just a nice, relaxing window shopping, stroll kind of day.  And guess what?  While we were appreciating the fountain and park area, we saw another freighter come in!  Are you getting sick of ship pictures yet?

This guy walked up to the fence, but when we didn’t offer anything, he left.
They don’t bother, because people around here don’t feed them.

There goes the tour boat!

If you scrolled through the pictures fast, you got to watch the Federal Elbe sail by! : )

Lupper (between lunch and supper) was at the Tripadvisor #1, Sault Ste. Marie restaurant, – Karl’s, where we had matching Reubens.

I couldn’t get it all in a picture, but the restaurant was shaped like a boat.

It was good, but for us, I think the best part was a father/daughter sitting at the table next to us who were just there for dessert.  The girl was about 6-7 years old and we had the perfect view of her face when the waitress brought out the dessert tray and started describing what was on it.  Pure joy and awe!  😊

We wandered our food off a bit, then stopped back in at the ice cream shop.  Ugh!  I can’t believe I ate the whollle thing!  And we thoroughly enjoyed every last bite!  😊

Chocolate Cherry Amaretto
Yum!!

Ewwww . . . .
Blaine goofing off.
He’d been leaning back on the stone bench we were sitting on.

We watched yet another ship come in, the Cason J. Calloway, then went home.
