No Helix Today     9/15/18

Holland State Park, Holland, Michigan

I was out this morning walking and talking to my Mom on the phone.
I had to hang up and take this picture. : )
But then I called her right back. Thanks Mom!

It was kind of a down day today, so I finally bit the bullet and went to get my hair cut and colored.  I’d been putting it off because my last cut was perfect.  It was in Athens, Alabama back in March, and the cut was called Helix.  It was like nothing I’d ever seen a stylist do before, and I’m telling you, every hair dresser should have this in their repertoire.  I know it requires a special class and scissors.  And I’ve not been able to locate another salon that offers this.  I called the woman who did my hair and she gave me a toll-free number to get a list from around the country, but I called two times and both times I got a recording.  Sigh . . .

My hair was getting unruly, so I finally gave in and got a regular cut.

Lindsey wanted to blow it out straight, so I let her.
Looks different, huh?
I’ll never put that much effort into it. : )

It’s okay.  But I miss my Helix.  I’ll keep trying to call for a list . . .

After I returned home, we went for a walk and found a local museum!  What a surprise!

This is the channel between a humongous lake named, Macatawa, and Lake Michigan.
It’s the same channel where Big Red sits.

Walking a pedestrian/bike way towards Lake Macatawa

This is the museum, inside an old pump house.

This and the next picture, were taken before they began preparing the house for a museum.

I guess the Ottawa Beach Hotel was quite the thing in its day,and we believe it used to sit by that Ottawa Historic Beach area.

Here’s the outside of the hotel.
Just look at all the people!

Here’s a picture of the inside lobby.

Interesting!

I didn’t recognize any names, but just look at those signatures!
No one writes like that anymore!

“In the 1920s automobiles became a familiar sight at Holland’s resorts as drivers struggled to find places to park these new conveyances.”

Sweet!

They had information on Big Red, but no old pictures. Hmmmm . . .

In the end, we wound up at the beach just to check out the tons of people enjoying the spectacular weekend.

To the beach!

Blaine took this panoramic.
Look how the color changes as he went from facing into the sun, to facing away from it.

And we returned for the sunset.  It was a bit different, but not enough to take a boatload of pictures again.
