Edisto Beach State Park, Edisto Island, South Carolina
The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. Matthew 7:25
It continued raining all night, but by early this morning, it was mostly over, and we raced out to the beach for what remained of a lovely sunrise! (Before breakfast, I might add.)

Spectacular morning!

Look at that sunrise!

These clouds reminded me of a funnel cloud . . .

Now that I know how these things are made, they’re even more fascinating!
Isn’t God great?!

A bear paw! : )

Random shells
And then we walked around the campground to check out the damage. A few small limbs and palm fronds down, but mostly just standing water.
We though we had quite a lagoon in our side yard, but it’s nothing compared to what else was out there.

Flooding

We couldn’t believe he let us so close!

There’s a lot of flooding, but did you notice how all the actual sites are elevated?
Once the weather settled down a bit more, we rode our bikes over to the State Park to try to find the other Bache Monument.
The trip took us down the street for a bit (on a bike path), and then we had to follow the hike/bike trails around, which wasn’t all that easy at first.

Off we go!
The trail would have been difficult to hike because of all the standing water. One place was so deep, we had to make sure to keep our feet flat on the pedals to stay dry! And we went really slow, in order to keep the backs of our clothes dry and clean. 😊

We encountered quite a few puddles like this one.
It was a nice ride and the scenery was pretty, but we were glad to be riding because it was a lot the same, so hiking would’ve just been walking many miles with nothing overly interesting to look at much of the time.

A bit of Christmas!

It’s near low tide right now.
We didn’t stop to take another picture on the way back, but this was completely under water about 2 hours later.

He was on the bridge. Why? He’s supposed to be in the muck like all other other good little crabbies.

It really was a pretty ride today!

The first peek at blue sky!

Hard to tell what’s real and what’s reflection . . .

This is at the end of the trail.
Can you imagine the size?!?

Here’s a small glimpse

Another pile – or part of the same one . . .
We were thirsty. We’d planned on getting water at the Research Center. No problem.
Except it was closed today.
And I mean c-l-o-s-e-d. No water. No restrooms. No nothing. Which might explain why, during the 2 ½ hours we rode around, we only saw three other people.

At the Educational Center

We decided to restore blood flow back to our nether regions and so we walked to the monument.

If Goliath had a slingshot . . .
But we met our objective!

There it is!
The Bache Monument here is in much better condition, and the sign boards (virtually the same as at the other place) were cleaner.

You could actually read all four sides on this one.

There’s a dock nearby, so we walked out to take a look around.

We didn’t really get this.
Are you supposed to release them with all that string, or call for help?
We didn’t see any sea turtles, but we did spot dolphins! Right here! In the marsh! About a mile from the ocean! Well, that got Blaine to thinking – – – how cool would it be to kayak with dolphins here? Since they obviously weren’t interested in us in the Atlantic, maybe this time would be different?

Perspective
Home and back to the store, where we were looking for stuff to make tacos. What can I say? We both had a craving! Their produce leaves much to be desired. Blaine had to slice up grape tomatoes. 😊 Hey, that’s the task he chose, I didn’t force it on him. And he did an excellent job!
We still had a few minutes before dinner to check out the beach. You won’t believe what someone took a lot of time to do!

Look what someone did on our beach! Is that cool or what!?!?
It’s about 4′ altogether!
After dinner, another sunset from our yard.

Sunset
And it’s only 5:12.
You know the old adage – Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise . 🙂
