Trouble Arrives 03/21/19

Jonathan Dickinson State Park, Hobe Sound, Florida (Jupiter)

In your hearts set apart Christ as Lord.  Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.  But do this with gentleness and respect . . .~ I Peter 3:15

For the majority of our lives, whenever Sandy and I are left unsupervised, we manage to get ourselves into some kind of trouble.  She would tell you it’s all my fault, that I’m actually the troublemaker, but after you read today’s post, I think you’ll side with me. 😊 After eleven-and-a-half days, trouble finally caught up with us today when we visited a “massage parlor” and liquor store.  Talk about your fall from grace! :{

We didn’t actually go into the parlor!  She just drove us by it.  The place where the Jupiter prostitution sting occurred that caught 25 men, including the New England Patriots’ owner. The place was closed and the signs were all down except the lettering in the window, but hey, we were there! 😊  On a side note – – the owner of the building where Eric has his business was approached just before that scandal by a Chinese woman looking to open a massage business in their building.  Once the sting happened, the owner never heard from her again. . . .

And she took me into a liquor store to buy the ingredients for a Hurricane because at some point during the past eleven days, I mentioned enjoying the one I had in New Orleans last year.  Her version wasn’t quite as good as the original, but it was still pretty good.

I’m pretty certain this was my first time in a liquor store . . .

Before the fall, we received great news!  Kyle and Shena are expecting another boy!  Harper’s not as excited as the rest, but she’ll be fine.  I expect it’ll take two brothers to handle her anyway.  😊  The gender reveal reaction by the kids is priceless!

You can guess which one wanted a boy! : ) Although Kade thought he’d like a sister until recent events with Harper picking on him changed his mind. : )

No name yet though.  They’ve got till August 8th to come up with one.  One of my silly friends suggested Obadiah and they could call him Obie One Kanobie.  I am not suggesting that.  Hahaha!

Afterwards, Blaine and I took a bike ride over at RiverBend Park – the same park we kayaked at a couple of days ago.  It’s a great park for biking!  Lots of history and about 10 miles of shell rock trails.

While I was reading and taking pictures, Blaine seemed anxious to get going. He kept circling the kiosk. I half expected a circle of butter to form. : )
Looking down at the river we kayaked the other day.
The tree on the left was beautiful!
Here’s the information board they had up here. I broke it down into individual pictures, though, so you don’t have to read this one. : )
What is that? We think it’s ant eggs? Icky and weird!
And inside the information board.

During one of our stops, we had a very close encounter with an extremely friendly squirrel!  We’re certain he was expecting a handout, but we had nothing except water with us.

Hi there!
Oh!! Well, hi again!
Curious little thing!
Are you waiting for a ride?
Obviously received hand-outs in the past! : )
This was a beautiful tree, but all the blooms were about 20′ up!
They reminded us of poppies, but growing in a tree.
If you read the previous information, you read about a chimney. This is it. It belonged to a neighbor of a Judge and the Judge was a friend of Trapper Nelson’s. We enjoy connecting the dots!
I suspect, knowing my husband, that this was an attempt at humor,
but I don’t mind because I’m down a size or two. : )
This one’s in pretty bad shape. Age? Storms?
And there’s Blaine, riding around in circles again as he waits for me. : )
Now you can see how they make it. According to Sandy and Eric, there are lots of rules about how the tiki huts are built, and only certain people (Native Americans?) are allowed to build them.
Here’s the inside. Besides the holes, it’s also getting very moldy. What’s that speck on there?
Uh oh. Some wasps apparently believe this is a great place to live!
It was a much more beautiful scene than the picture would indicate. : )
Wide, hard trails to ride on, but they also still held some water we had to maneuver around.
There’s water in the picture, but you can’t really see it for some reason.
No gator sightings today . . .
This is the Seminole Village the sign said was here. Not much of a village. Maybe they’re working on it?
The farmstead and saw mill seemed to have more things of interest.
They actually run the saw mill at certain times, but not while we were there.
Our lunch view today. While there were many picnic areas available, here by the Jeep our only options were wet picnic tables or benches that faced the bathrooms. I wasn’t willing to sit at either and chose the Jeep.
These odd ducks are not ducks. They’re Egyptian Geese. Egyptian geese were imported into Texas and then Florida from their native home in Africa south of the Sahara as decorative birds. They now consider them an invasive species.

After lunch, we had Sandy drive us to Juno Beach to check out the waves.

We caught the drawbridge shortly after they closed the road to traffic, so we sat patiently talking and waiting. It took about 5 minutes before traffic could cross over.
Large waves! Just what we were hoping for!
Not many on the beach today.
This was just about the only day Sandy and I didn’t wear matching tops. : )

It’s been so windy the past couple of days, we figured they’ve be pretty big, and we weren’t disappointed!  Neither were the surfers!  Eric and Sandy’s two sons grew up here catching the waves, especially “Aquaman” Adam.

If you scroll though the next few pictures quickly, you can watch the guy surf! haha! Or you can just watch the movies. . . .
Well look at that! Synchronized swimming!
They need to practice staying closer together, though. : )

Catch a wave and you’re sittin’ on top of the world!

It was here we had our second very close critter encounter, this time with a pelican!

We first spotted this guy mooching off the fishermen.

But when he decided to roost on the railing, we simply couldn’t resist trying to get even closer!
How sweet! Blaine and Sandy have matching bracelets!
Actually, they indicate that we paid our $1 admission.
Fishermen have to pay $4.
While we were out at the end of the pier, one of the waves hit so hard, we felt the pier vibrate!
Mr. Pelican was on the opposite side as we were leaving the pier, and Sandy just had to try to touch him. And he let her! Several times!
We walked a ways on the beach, before deciding it was time to head to Sandy’s.

We spent the rest of the day, hanging out at Sandy and Eric’s.  Adam and Jessica returned and Sandy made grilled chicken, fresh green beans, U Tiki potatoes (which were excellent!) and bread.  We finished the key lime pie and some people also had homemade chocolate peanut butter cookies Sandy made. Her recipes are at the end.

This curly-tail lizard appears to live under their fire pit. It comes out and if their little dog, Lex spots it, they chase each other around the pit. : )
A woodpecker landed on their tree. The closest we’ve ever been to one.

U TIKI POTATO CASSEROLE CLONE

2# shredded hash browns

½ stick butter, melted

16 oz. sour cream

¼ C. onion, diced

1 C. cheddar cheese, shredded

1 t. salt

½ t. pepper

1 can cream of celery soup

1 egg

1 C. Panko bread crumbs

2-3 T. melted butter

Mix together the Panko and 2-3 T. melted butter for toping.  In a large bowl, melt the ½ stick of butter and add all other ingredients.  Pour into 9 x 13 pan, top with Panko and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

Sandy served ours in ramekins – one per person.

So scrumptious, I saved half of mine to eat last!

CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES

1 box Devils Food Cake Mix (18 ¼ oz)

2 eggs

1/3 C. vegetable oil

1 pkg (10 oz) peanut butter chips

Mix ingredients, stir in chips.  Roll into 1” balls.  Place on a lightly greased baking sheet.  Flatten slightly.

Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.

Cool 2 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.

These were so good, even I liked them and I don’t normally enjoy chocolate/peanut butter stuff – except Resse’s minis.  😊
