Cabin Fever 04/09/19

Reed Bingham State Park, Adel, Georgia

. . . Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it. ~  Luke 11:28

We moved from Adel (A+ – del) to Cordele (Core-DEAL), Georgia.  It was very overcast today and spitted rain on us several times, but by the time we arrived 1 ½ hours and 80 miles later, the weather was fine.

These are just a few of the billboards for the Magnolia Plantation I referred to the other day.
That’s the Georgia Museum!
Now look at that sky! Does that look like rain to you??
We followed this guy for a while. How do those logs stay on there???
Spring!
We followed this guy for a while, too. He was driving waaaay below the speed limit. Fortunately, he turned after a few miles.
Almost there!

Georgia Veterans State Park, Cordele, Georgia

One of Georgia’s true treasures, Georgia Veteran’s State Park was established in 1946 as a memorial to U.S. veterans. This beautiful 1,308 acre park pays tribute to veterans from the Revolutionary War through the present day. The Park operates under the theme, “Serve the Living: Honor our Heroic Dead. Easily accessible from I-75 (via Exit 101 and west on Highway 280) in Cordele, GA, the park features the picture-perfect Lake Blackshear, an array of recreational activities and its signature Military Museum with engaging indoor exhibits, as well as outdoor static displays including: a B-29A Superfortress, jets, a helicopter, tanks, landing craft and artillery.

Refresh your spirit with a walk on the four miles of nature trails, or gather the family and enjoy a lakeside picnic and a swim from the sandy beach. The classic Southern lake is also perfect for fishing and boating, while the 18-hole Denis Griffith’s designed course provides golfers with a challenging day. With endless possibilities including camping, a model airplane flying field, an 18-hole Disc Golf course, the Veteran’s Museum, biking, kayaking, canoeing, a hummingbird and butterfly garden and three playgrounds you will want to stay for several days. For the ultimate scenic excursion ride the SAM Shortline Excursion Train that runs through the park on its way from Cordele to Plains, GA, stopping in cultural and historic sites along the way. ~ from their website

Driving to the campground area.
That’s just scary! But he made it. Barely!
I’m standing in our site. He pulled forward and then backed in. Easy-Peasy!
Here’s our yard for the next week!

Blaine had read about a store close by called Stripling’s that’s known for their meats and sausages, so once we were set up, we drove over to see what they had.  Sausage sandwiches for dinner it is! But not until after another brief rain shower passed over us.

This BIG piggy went to market!
Look at that! This is the gas station in front of the Market! Cool!
The chef at work! The sausages we bought were really good!
We’ll be going back to try out something else!

Then, because we ate so much dinner, we took a really long walk around the Park.  This place is huge and diverse!

Along with the Veteran’s State Park, there’s also a resort area within the Park boundary.

And we happened upon an old car show!  It was called ‘Cabin Fever’ because it’s the first time they’ve brought the cars out this season.  Apparently, they travel around.  What a marvelous display!  I attempted to get more information, but was unsuccessful.

Uh oh. Latecomer! : )
By the lake.
The back of the Cypress Grill. Nice looking place, but it was closed.
Maybe they’re only open on the weekend?
Do you know what these are?
Kumquats!
They’re a fruit in the citrus family.
Supposedly the skin is sweet, but the fruit is sour.
Nice beach, right?
Until you see this sign!
Sorry, but my kids would NOT swim here!
Or me either . . .
These are the camping cabins.
The lights are on, but nobody’s home. : )
We walked around the war display area for a little while.
Until the mosquitoes found me!
This was the most interesting thing I read in our short visit.
Blaine found us a shortcut!

And our site doesn’t have sewer hook-up, so for the next 7 nights, I’ll be using the bath house.  Hopefully it won’t prove to be as entertaining as the one at O’Leno.  😊

This cutie is in front of the bath house. : )
I’m guessing they change the decorations for the seasons. . . .
