For out of the overflow of the
heart the mouth speaks. The good man
brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil
things out of the evil stored up in him.
But I tell you that men will have to give account on the Day of Judgment
for every careless word they have spoken.
For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be
condemned. ~ Matthew 12:34-37
You’d think we’d just about seen it all in this area of
the country – meaning, the Southeast, but once again, the Lord provided a
variety of surprises!
There were still two more trails plus their “songbird
habitat” left to visit before we leave tomorrow. We sort of expected them to be a same-old-same-old
hikes, mostly because they weren’t very long, but we should know by now that
only a very tiny fraction of our activities in the past two years turn out to
be same-ole-same-old.
I don’t have any particularly extraordinary stories, but we have some wonderful pictures!
It won’t be long before their trailhead marker is obliterated, unless they do some grooming!
Giant azalea blooms!
At least this sign’s safe . . . for now . . . .
Guess you have to be a horticulturist because as we walked around, all we saw was a lot of green. . .
There was another trail that left from the nature trail.
Oh the detail God’s imprinted on these lovely flowers we take for granted!
Do you know what these are? It was our very first sighting in almost 60 years! Consequently, you’re going to be blessed with a lot of pictures of them! : )
Did you figure it out yet?
It’s Mountain Laurel! The leaves remind us of miniature rhododendron leaves.
Oh my!!!
Just look at the design by the Great Creator!
And here’s some that have a pink hue to them!
We should’ve looked harder for some that didn’t have these blooms on them so we could catalog their humble beginnings. But this is as close as we got.
They had this painting along with an information board. Most of it was ‘normal’ stuff, but we thought the information on this Tiger Swallowtail butterfly was interesting.
So was the stuff on the ‘ordinary’ opposum.
Making use of the leftovers from the mining.
I went exploring off-trail and found this! The train goes over top of it, but not while we were there.
Sometimes my husband chooses odd times to take my picture . . .
Show off! : )
Our trail took us to the road. Now we’ll have to turn around and head back.
But first, let’s check out the trail across the street!
We have no information on it, but it’s wide and paved and several people were using it to run on. Blaine pulled it up on Google Maps and discovered it’s probably about a mile or so long. We didn’t feel like it, so we didn’t.
What do you see here? And no, I didn’t manipulate the colors!
If it hadn’t jumped across the trail right in front of us, we never would’ve spotted it!
And it let Blaine get really close to take pictures!
So. There’s a reason I took this picture. I wanted to show you how they’ve made this road for cars (far right), bikes (middle to the left of the double yellow) and pedestrians (far left). Plus there’s a sidewalk. Almost no one uses the sidewalk. The pedestrians – whether walking or running or pushing a stroller. We found that odd. There’s nothing wrong with the sidewalk. . . . I took this while we were driving to the next stop – the songbird habitat.
We didn’t see much wildlife here. This could be a black and white picture.
We happened to spot this dragonfly with wings that look like signal flags. : )
And then this red-tailed hawk flew down into the field right by where we were walking and spread his wings!
He sat like that for a long time!
Looking down on the field where the hawk was.
Our trail went through this gate. Our question? Why is there a fence and gate?
Believe it or not, his house was on our map. It was marked as “house”. We expected to see something like an abandoned farmhouse. Nope.
And there was a locked gate on a fence that seemed to only keep us from falling down the hill. Is it really necessary for a locked gate? Hmmmmm . . . .
Hey! Look up there! That’s the buildings on top of the mountain!
Real honeysuckle!
Don’t know what this is, but now we’re looking for the trail by the Marriott that’s supposed to be here.
We’re doing Hawk and Blue, but our map didn’t have names, just red and blue lines. We know nothing about a green heron one. . .
We don’t know what this stuff is, but it was growing all over the trees here.
That’s the covered bridge from the other day!
Turtles!
An open coconut? Where in the world did that come from??
Tomorrow we move – from one Stone Mountain to another.
