Fancy Gap Cabins and Campground, Fancy Gap, Virginia

…acknowledge the God of your father, and serve Him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts.  If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever. ~  I Chronicles 28:9

We moved to Wild and Wonderful West Virginia today, a drive that took about two hours and 107 miles.

But before we left, we had one last chat with the campground owner.

He informed us that the National Park Service is about six months behind in hiring and getting things done, in part due to the government shut down a while back and also because they experienced four large storms this winter.  One dumped 30” of snow right before Christmas, and the owner’s daughter was coming in from England.  They had to shovel by hand, but we’re not sure how she got here from the airport.  We also found out that this campground is open from sometime in April until sometime in November.

We’re leaving a beautiful place!
We had to go to this overlook to hook up the Jeep
because there wasn’t a good spot at the campground. : )
Proof that the State of Virginia has a sense of humor.
We passed several of these signs along the way! hahaha!!!

During our drive, I spent 30 minutes (mostly on hold) on the phone with Verizon in an attempt to have a charge removed from our bill.  It was worth it!  I was successful!  😊

Off the expressway and onto narrow country roads.
See those cars?
It seems the local fire department was having a BBQ
and everyone in town was there for lunch!!
Too bad we couldn’t stop!
All these hills really cuts into our fuel mileage!
At the start of this road, there was a sign that said it wasn’t rated for trucks,
however, it’s the only way to the campground.
Terrible roads!

We had a small incident today. The address for the Park was two miles from the entrance! And you’re wondering, so what. So that meant that the address in the gps was two miles further down the road! We saw the Park sign, but there was nothing that said it was the campground entrance, so we went to where the gps said we were supposed to be. It wasn’t. Instead, it was woods. On both sides of the road.

And now we have a real problem. There’s no place to turn around and the road is getting worse and worse and Blaine’s getting more concerned about what we’re going to do and what lies ahead and I just sit quietly and say a prayer.

And then! There it was! Right at a bend in the road! A church with a large flat parking lot and easy access! Perfect! We pulled in, unhooked the Jeep and turned around. Whew! Thank You, Father!

Making our way to the office.
The office was closed. Next stop, our campsite.
Good thing Blaine already knows the site number!
That’s the campground host, just asking if we have a reservation.
Apparently, they don’t do any type of check in here.
First time that’s happened in two years.
And here we are! It’s a large drive-thru site.
Very nice, but no satellite which means we’ll have to watch
two hours of American Idol AND the commercials. Ugh . . .
Our yard for the next few days!
Hopefully the weather will improve enough for us to eat out there.
Remember, we’re not camping, we’re living,
so there’s no need to eat out in the cold and/or wet. : )
