Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers over all wrongs. ~ Proverbs 10:12
Hi everybody. Blaine here. It’s been a year since my last post, so since it’s Terri’s birthday I get to add a few words. I don’t have any access to pictures this year, I’ll have to do better next year. But I can tell you that I am married to the most amazing woman, and I am blessed to spend each day with her. She is a beautiful, energetic companion to spend this life with. HAPPY 60th Sweetheart, I Love You!!
We believe birthdays are supposed to be celebrated as joyous occasions. God created each person with a purpose in mind, and as such, we should celebrate the God-given life! When Blaine and I grew up, each of our families celebrated them, and in our family, the tradition was that on your birthday, Mom would prepare any meal you wanted (one year, our youngest wanted cheap frozen pizza. O-kay then . . . ). And we always ate on the good china with tablecloth and cloth napkins – even when it was cheap pizza. 😊
So imagine my surprise when I spent the entire day crying off and on all day! And it had absolutely nothing to do with aging, as you might be thinking. In retrospect, I think I was just really homesick. A new grandson that I wasn’t able to meet, and well-wishes from family and friends . . . it just really got to me this year for some reason. And Blaine was soooo very patient and kind! He did his best to console me, even at times not doing anything at all to try to “fix the problem” like men seem to need to do. 😊
And contributing to that, was the fact that inclement weather prevented us from the activity I’d chosen for today – climbing to the highest peak in all of Quebec.
First thing this morning, I was showered with loving gifts!
We went out early, before breakfast, and walked the beach in the cool of the morning – I love doing that. And I loved that it was overcast, foggy and cool.
Then, about brunch-time, Blaine made his infamous waffles and added blueberries, Sugardale bacon (because it’s the best!), and orange juice. And I splurged further by added real butter to my waffles. Yum!!!!!
Then I spent some time being frustrated with the lack of internet service, as I grow further and further behind on my posting.
After noon (not lunch because we were still full from brunch!), we went for a drive towards St. Anne du Monts – the next town over, where we found a community park filled with driftwood carvings.
After that, Blaine found some Jeep roads to check out the countryside. It’s really remote once you get away from the water! There’s even signs up that tell you that the road’s not plowed.
And finally, the dinner. After doing some research, we decided to return to the Valmont. No cloth linens, but I was able to order whatever I wanted. Since we had that huge dinner last night, we both opted for burgers tonight. And hamburgers are probably my favorite meal anyway, so it worked out. 😊 And these were fantastic! I’ve never been able to figure out what makes one hamburger better than another, but these were a wonderful choice! And the fries were better than your ‘average’ french fries, and it was served with a side of salad. No. Not cole slaw. Actual salad. On the plate with the burgers and fries. Tossed with some kind of very light, fairly tasteless oil/vinegar dressing. Probably healthy, so we ate it. 😊 I suppose we could’ve put it on our burgers, but neither of us did.
Back home, I got to choose a movie from our DVR recorded list. My favorite type of movie is an adventure/romantic/drama theme (think, the Disney/Johnny Depp pirate movies or The Mummy with Brendon Fraser and Rachel Weisz), so tonight, I chose “Prince of Persia”. Not the type of movies Blaine prefers, which is why it’s been on our DVR for quite some time. It was pretty good, but not Oscar-winning material. But those types of movies never are. 😊
The sunset tonight promised to be glorious, so we walked out to the beach to check it out. There was a sign at the entrance – in French – and a small roped off area to our left. When we walked over to see if we could determine why, there was, what appeared to be, a small dead seal lying there. We assume it was protected for one of two reasons, or both – either they’re wanting it to be reclaimed by the sea at high tide, or they’re saving it for some type of wildlife warden to come get it.
We got the ‘don’t touch the seal’ part. The rest, we had to translate later:
Well, I guess it might not of been dead after all . . . .
After we checked out the seal, we found a spot that wasn’t in front of someone, and proceeded to watch God paint on His canvas. It was pretty calm, until all of a sudden, someone flipped on the wind switch! And I mean all of a sudden! One second there was no wind or a brief passing gentle breeze, and the next? Wham! I was so glad I had on a hoodie! Crazy! But what a gorgeous sunset we were able to witness!
Back home, it was time for birthday cake! Raspberry chocolate mousse! Yummy!
