Camping du Phare a Perce, Perce, Quebec, Canada
He who puts up security for another will surely suffer, but whoever refuses to strike hands in pledge is safe. ~ Proverbs 11:15
It’s time to climb another mountain. This time, we’re looking for the summit of Mont Sainte-Anne, an uphill trek of just over two miles with an elevation change of . . . well, I don’t know, but the mountain is just over 2,600 feet tall, and I can tell you that the elevation change seemed just about that much today. Whew! Blaine says it’s just because I’m older now, but I think it’s the inclines they have here. That’s okay, though, he has more trouble going back down, so I guess that makes us even. However, I go slower up than he goes down. So he still wins. Every time. 😊
We parked on the road again and walked to the entrance of the GeoPark building and looked around for the trail entrance. We had to walk through the campground there to find it.
Shortly after we began, and as we’re walking uphill, we began an unexpected lesson on the colorful history of Perce and Bonaventure. It was nice to take breaks every so often. 😊
But too soon, the boards ended and it was just hiking after that. It was a good hike with viewing areas every so often, so there were additional breaks. I like breaks.
We made it to the top, and there was a statue of St. Anne (we presume). Anne is the patron saint of sailors and a protector from storms. She’s also said to be the mother of Mary, but I don’t remember ever seeing Mary’s mother named in Scripture. . . .
Anyway, it was a gorgeous spot to eat lunch!
On the way back down, we had to cross that road again, the one that warns you and tells you that you need a 4×4 to drive on it. Open invitation!!
So we did! But first we stopped at a roadside overlook.
What fun our drive was! And it took us right back up to the shrine. Much easier this time! 😊
And on the way back home, Blaine spotted Waldo!
Remember “Where’s Waldo” from the 80’s? Our boys loved the “Where’s Waldo?” books! And another history lesson – Waldo was created by an artist in 1987 over in Great Britain as “Wally”. For some reason his name was changed for distribution in the US and Canada.
