The Arctic Blast Is Headed Our Way 11/12/19

Northgate RV Park, Athens, Alabama

Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the LORD a man avoids evil.  ~ Proverbs 16:6

It hit us today, and especially overnight tonight.  The Arctic Blast.  Rendering not just us, but also much of the good ol’ US of A, frozen.  We couldn’t even escape it in Alabama.  Whoda thunk that when we set our course about a year ago, that we’d be dealing with temps in the low twenties and wind chills near single digits?  And it’s set to get even colder!  Right now, the forecast for the week has temperatures dipping below 30 every night – – even after tonight.

We had rain last night that froze in the wee hours of the morning, and since it dipped before the forecast, we were caught unawares, and our water line at the spigot outside was frozen this morning.  There was also ice clinging to the side of the coach.

Good morning, frigid Athens, Alabama!
A combination of snow and ice on the neighbor’s truck.
Looking out the driver’s side window.

At least we have our love to keep us warm . . . .

And a crockpot full of chili.  Mmmmmmm . . . . . . .

Today was quite a day for Blaine – – again.  He spent the day taking care of our water issues, making sure we’d have plenty of heat to get us through the night (pulling in the one slide helps), and trying to find a new spare tire and wheel for the Jeep.  The spare we’re using is exactly like the other three, but he needs to replace the flat, damaged one.

Oh.  And we had to do a bunch of grocery shopping today.  And talk with State Farm Insurance about our accident.  It was decided that since the accident was essentially “he said-he said”, that we’ll just pay for the repairs ourselves.  PLUS, we discovered that since the Jeep was being towed, the damage is covered under our RV policy, not the Jeep policy.  What that means is that, while State Farm is willing to help us out and cover expenses, they will try to get the expenses reimbursed by the truck driver’s insurance.  If they can’t, they will then defer to our RV Insurance for reimbursement.

You probably don’t remember, but two years ago when we were rear-ended in Alabama on Easter Sunday, our RV carrier tried to triple our premium, until State Farm put together a letter on our behalf!  So taking care of the expense this time would be far less than paying a much higher premium for the rest of our time on the road.

So that’s it for today.  Just a report on how we survived The Arctic Blast.  😊
