Davis Mountains State Park, Fort Davis, Texas

A perverse man stirs up dissension, and a gossip separates close friends.  ~ Proverbs 16:28

Good morning, Fort Davis!

We thought to ease into mountain hiking today with a short hike.  It was drab and dismal and cold – – cold enough to snow!  We bundled up and hit the trail anyway . . . .

And ended up adding another 13,000 steps to our boots!  So much for a short hike!

I can’t remember where the information board was for these three pictures,
but they were the first ones I took when we began our hike late this morning.
We started out in the Old CCC Trail.
The warmth of fellowship with friends, but cold bodies!
And something weird . . . both Blaine’s and my phone changed the color of Jeannine’s coat!
It was jewel purple! Believe it or not . . .
That’s the Lodge.
Even the cactus was feeling the cold and drooping!
This is what four retirees look like when they face the cold and wind. : )
But we look happy, don’t we!
Take note of this shelter, you’ll need to remember it later. : )
Well, hello there! What do you have growing in there?
Never seen that before!
Snowflakes in Jeannine’s hair!
And on my glove!
And in the air all around us!
Walking on . . .
We’ll get to that peak eventually . . .
Nice views, even in this weather!
Imagine if the sun was shining!
These plants were around and were an odd color of bluegreen.
Some type of holly we thought.
Still climbing!
We chose the trail rather than the road, just in case cars were driving up or down.
It’s not a very wide road.
I can hear Jeannine, “Really, we have to go up there?” hahaha!

But a good time was had by all, and later, we visited the CCC Lodge for a bit, before heading into town for dinner.

Once we returned, we drove to the Lodge. : )
Remember that shelter I told you to rememer? : )
We determined to come back one evening and enjoy the fire! The guy working in the store said to just let him know and they’d start one for us! Isn’t that great?!?
There was a soveniour shop, and I can’t resist checking out books to consider for the grandkids. Shhhh . . . don’t tell them . . . . I didn’t buy them yet, but when I researched, I found them for almost half the price at Amazon. This one’ll be for Harper.
This one for Kade.
And this is a set of 3 for the older boys. I still have to find one for baby Cooper. : )
Back outside, we were very impressed with this place.
Surprisingly, no one was using the pool today . . .

“Cueva De Leon” (recommended by one of the staff here) was definitely a small-town restaurant that offered Mexican food.

We arrived 10 minutes before they were supposed to open, but they had opened 15-minutes early “Because by 7:30, it’s dead in here and we can close early”, or so said the waitress. It doesn’t get any more small-town than that.  😊

Oh.  Wait.  Yes it does . . . .

Brad and Jeannine ordered first, with Jeannine ordering a single serving chicken fajita, which is the same thing Blaine and I were getting, but for two.

There’s a point here.

When the waitress came to Blaine next, and he ordered, she told him they only had enough chicken for the one fajita (that Jeannine just ordered)!  They just opened for crying out loud!  How’s that possible??  So Blaine switched to beef.  I ordered green chicken enchiladas because that’s what I had in San Antonio that was so good.  Turned out, Blaine’s dinner was the best!  Never had steak so tender and flavorful before!  I had talked Brad into the enchiladas, too, and we were both disappointed.  They were nothing like the ones in San Antonio.  ☹  I felt bad for recommending them.

We dropped B&J off at their vacation home (a 32’ motorhome), and we retired to ours.

Wonderful first day!
