Old Mining Town 02/27/20

Rustys RV Ranch, Rodeo, New Mexico

Do not say, “I’ll pay you back for this wrong!  Wait for the LORD, and He will deliver you.  ~ Proverbs 20:22

Another lovely morning!

We were only at Rusty’s for two nights, so we’ll have to come back one day.  It’s a lovely campground and others could learn a lesson or two from her about how to make a campground an inviting oasis!  And it turned out that there were several sights to see in the area that we missed.  By the way… Rusty’s a woman.  Maybe that’s why the place is so homey.  😊

But for now, it’s time to move on. But first, Blaine had time to walk around the campground one last time.

A desert swan! Whodathunk?!?
Beautiful creature!
Glad to see he made it back to water. FYI – black swans have a special place in our family’s memories. Our younger son was bit, right between the eyes, at the Miami Zoo back when he was about 4 years old. He was fine, but we joke and stear clear of them ever since. : )
Leaving the campground.
We’re in Arizona!
Blaine pulled over here.
It’s a monument to remember where Geronimo surrendered.
Wouldn’t you think there’d be more here than this?
What’s the Border Patrol up to?
This area was covered in yellow flowers!
We saw the dust from this truck several minutes ago.
Now it’s a race to see if we can beat him before he gets to the main road. : )
It was close, but we made it just in time. : )
This was a different sign!
What kind of animals??
I saw a horse right after, does that count?
Which way should we go?
This is in the town of Douglas.
Small town Arizona.
22 miles to go!
6 miles to go!

Queen Mine RV Park, Bisbee, Arizona

Entering Bisbee!
Beautiful colors everywhere!!
Look to the left. That’s our RV Park!
It was soooo confusing . . . and tight to get to the campground today!
Our height is 13’1″!!
YIKES!!

Talk about an interesting entrance!  We weren’t sure what was going on!  But Blaine’s an excellent driver, and he did it with no problem.

Sharp right . . .
. . . . directly into this parking lot!
Talk about nervous!
But just to the left . . . .
(and by the way, what’re those officers doing here?)
. . . . was this sign.
And yes. Our front end was really that close!
It had to be to get the rest of us around the corner!
Up a short hill.
And this is it. A large, gravel parking lot.
Luckily no one else was sitting up here,
because we had to unhook the Jeep and then maneuver the motorhome . . . . .
. . . . into that small spot.
He did it!
But I don’t think we’ve ever been quite this close to our neighbors before.
For certain, there’s no place to sit outside, even if we wanted to.
Our coach is nearly up against that car, and our Jeep is realy close to their slide.
But what a great, and unusual place!

We’d left late – about 11am, and because we didn’t have far to drive today, we were set up and ready to go paint the town by 1:15pm.  What an interesting place!  Everything is built on the surrounding hills!  I don’t know how they do it.  And as you saw, even our campground is up on a hill.

The view from the campground office, which is just a stone’s throw from where we’re parked.
We took a short drive back down the hill to the Post Office.
We’re finally at a place where we could have our accumulating mail sent to us!
On the way back, we stopped at this observation area we passed on the way in.
It’s a gigantic non-operational open pit mine called Lavender Pit.
This is why the hills are so beautiful here!
They cut holes in the fencing here so you can take pictures.
Wasn’t that considerate of them?
This place is absolutely massive!

We took the Jeep home and went for a walk around town.

I don’t know if you noticed from the previous pictures, but we’re parked right by the Queen Mine Tours. These are the trains they use to take you on the tour. More on that in two days. : )
This map shows some of the mountains we’ve visited recently, as well as a few we’ll be visiting soon.
It seems Bisbee is still celebrating Christmas!
Appropriate since when we picked up our mail today,
it contained 5 Christmas cards we hadn’t yet received from our mail service. : )
You can’t see it in the picture, but beyond these steps, are even more!
There are a LOT of steps in this town to get you from one street to another.
Isn’t this interesting?? lol!!
It took a little research, and I sitll don’t know much about this place, but it was built in 1904 by a secret society called the Knights of Pythias as their meeting place. It seems they lent space to the mine union and when things became difficult with the union, the Pythias’ left them the building and moved to another location. It sat mostly empty from 1940 – 1980, when a company bought it and converted it into apartments. In 2015, it was sold to someone else and is now being restored to it’s original floor plan.
It didn’t seem like it was finished yet.

And the hillsides around here are gorgeous!

We’ll be busy checking everything out for the next few days!
